QUICKFACT SHEET

The Sony A7R V (aka a7r V, α7r V, Alpha 7R V) is a pro-level/expert-level full-frame mirrorless camera for pros and photography enthusiasts. It is compact for a full-frame camera and is fully featured with many professional-grade features, accessories and lenses.

Of the six full-frame mirrorless cameras that offer a high resolution sensor, the Sony A7R V boasts the highest resolution at 61MP. For those who need even more highly detailed architecture or art pictures (static subjects), the Pixel Shift Multi Shooting feature captures 16 pixel-shifted images which are then composited on your computer into one high-precision image of approx. 240.8 MP from original data of approx. 963.2 MP (equivalent).

The A7R V also boasts one of the largest and brightest highest resolution EVF with 9.44M dots, a 0.9x magnification and a high 120fps refresh rate. Or, you can use the 3.1-inch 2.1M-dot 4-axis Tilt/Vari-angle Touchscreen LCD on the back of the camera. The LCD tilts up about 98°, down about 40°, as well as open up 180° and swivel 270° to face forward — hence satisfying the preferences of both photo-centric and video-centric users for both portrait and landscape shooting.

Sony’s sticky and reliable Tracking Eye AF has always led the industry and has been a big reason why many pro photographers have switched to Sony mirrorless cameras. The A7R V adds AI subject recognition to its AF so that the camera is able to recognize humans in various postures and a number of new subjects. The A7R V can now reliably recognize, lock focus and track humans, animals, birds, insects, cars, trains, and airplanes. The AF is sensitive down to EV -4.

The 5-axis IBIS (In-Body Image Stabilization) offers up to 8 steps of stabilization, again one of the best in the industry.

Continuous Shooting (with mechanical or electronic shutter) is 10fps with AF/AE for up to 1000+ JPEG images, 583 RAW images, or 184 RAW+JPEG images.

The A7R V shoots 4K/30P/24P video with no crop. It also shoots 8K/24P at 1.24x crop. For slow motion movies, it shoots 4K/60P at 1.24x crop and Full HD/120P. As expected when dealing with a high resolution image sensor, rolling shutter is a problem in videos and is something to be aware of if you plan to shoot action videos with the A7R V.

There are dual card slots both accepting either a CFexpress Type A or SDXC UHS-I/II card.

Note that Sony does not guarantee that its cameras (including the A7R V) are completely dust and moisture resistant, and Sony does not provide any industry rating to that effect. It does say that “Based on feedback from professionals, the Alpha 7R V includes improved heat dissipation for extended recording times, an upgraded dust and moisture resistant design, a durable magnesium alloy chassis, and other refinements for maximum reliability in challenging working environments.” Basically, “sealing is provided at all body seams, buttons and the battery compartment cover. A carefully designed lens lock button and cushioning around the mount also help resist dust and moisture.

The Sony A7R V is supported by a system of high quality lenses, vertical grip, external flashes, microphones, monitor hood, shooting grip with wireless remote commander, grip extension, and software that further expand the shooting system.
