For grade 1-8 students across 23 schools in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, during April and May 2016 the Arts Committee at West Region 6 of the Toronto District School Board (TDSB) hosted a digital photography contest – focused on the theme of “Community” – which was sponsored by Scotiabank CONTACT Photography Festival and Nikon Canada.

Nikon Canada recognizes the importance of encouraging youth to express themselves through imagery and photography. In cooperation with the 2016 Scotiabank CONTACT Photography Festival, Nikon Canada launched the Youth Project: Community.

On May 11th, the Arts Committee displayed the submissions of the “Community” student photography contest. Each school submitted images for display at Islington Junior Middle School. A judging panel from CONTACT and the TDSB selected three grand prize winners who each received a Nikon D3300 D-SLR with 18-55mm VR lens kit.
