City of Toronto announces winners of Snap and Share photo contest

The City of Toronto and Nikon Canada have selected the winners of the winter Snap & Share photo contest. Produced by Toronto Parks, Forestry and Recreation and presented by Nikon Canada, the contest attracted more than 1,400 submissions from across the city.

Winners listed by category:

• Grand Prize winner: Ring, taken at Nathan Phillips Square by Alecs Chor
• Colour in Winter: CN Sticking Out, taken at Tommy Thompson Park by Domien Clercq
• Great Indoors: Silhouette, taken at Parkway Forest Community Centre by Roilan Gensaya
• Family Fun: Toronto Tradition, taken at Nathan Phillips Square by Ash O’Malley
• Winter Wildlife: Urban Snowy, taken at Tommy Thompson Park by Owen Strickland
• Walking in a Winter Wonderland: Snow Blind…, taken at Humber Bay Park by Steve Kokaliaris
• Winter Walking Tour: Winter Walks, taken at High Park by Rafael Correa
• People’s Choice: Toronto Arches, taken at Nathan Phillips Square by Tony Geer

All entries were evaluated based on content, composition, impact and technical criteria by an expert panel of judges consisting of: Kristian Bogner, a professional photographer and Nikon Canada Ambassador; Ed Robertson, lead singer of Barenaked Ladies and an avid photographer; and Michelle Valberg, a wildlife and adventure photographer and Nikon Canada Ambassador. The People’s Choice winner was decided by the public through two rounds of online voting.

The grand prize winner will receive a Nikon D3300 HD-SLR prize pack and Photographic Rockstar workshop taught by Bogner. The People’s Choice winner and Winter Walking Tour winner will also receive the Photographic Rockstar workshop and each of the other category winners will take home a Nikon COOLPIX camera.

The winning photographs and honourable mentions can be viewed at toronto.ca/photocontest. Many of the submissions will also be featured on the Parks, Forestry and Recreation Facebook page at facebook.com/TorontoPFR.
