Samsung Galaxy Note9 Phone Has an Intelligent Camera: Scene Optimizer Uses A.I. to Identify the Type of Scene You’re About to Photograph; Flaw Detection Instantly Notifies You of Flaws So You Can Take Another Photo; Dual Aperture Lens for Shooting in Any Lighting; Super Slow-mo

The following video presents Galaxy Note9’s Intelligent Camera:
The Galaxy Note9 builds on Samsung’s industry-leading camera technologies with new capabilities that take the work out of capturing the perfect photo.

Samsung released the Galaxy Note9 with its accompanying Remote Control S Pen, and the Galaxy Watch.

  • The Scene Optimizer uses artificial intelligence (A.I.) via deep-learning technology to analyze objects, scenery and time elements in the camera’s frame in order to identify exactly which type of scene you’re about to photograph. The function recognizes 20 types of scenes—including ‘Food’, ‘Flowers’, ‘Indoor scenes’ and ‘Landscapes’— and automatically adjusts the color tone based on how the scene is classified[1]. It corrects the saturation, white balance, brightness and contrast in order to provide the best possible image. And because it does not require a network connection, it’s always available to help make your photos look great.

  • With Flaw Detection, once a photo has been snapped, if the subject’s eyes are closed, the image is blurry, or there is a smudge on the lens, the feature automatically scans it for flaws and notifies you if any are found[2]. That way, you can take another picture before you lose the moment.

  • Rear Dual Camera: Combining an F2.4 aperture lens with an F1.5, the Dual Aperture lens automatically adjusts to light, letting in more light when it’s dark and less when it’s bright to produce images that are crisp and clear.” The Galaxy Note9’s multi-frame processing technology, which combines several photos into one to create an optimal image, allows the camera to provide better HDR at night, and enriches the Live Focus feature with improved brightness and noise when taking pictures in low-light environments.
  • Front Camera:
    • 8MP AF sensor
    • FOV: 80˚
    • F1.7 aperture
    • Selfie focus
    • Selfie
    • Wide selfie
  • Four times slower than traditional slow-motion video, Super Slow-mo is powered by the camera’s Super Speed Dual Pixel image sensor, which supports much faster image processing thanks in part to its integrated DRAM memory chip. The feature also includes an automatic Motion Detection function that instantly starts recording as soon as it detects movement. You can transform 0.4 seconds of footage into approximately 12 seconds of Super Slow-mo video when taken in single shot mode[3]. Once a video is recorded, the feature automatically “adds appropriate background music that makes the recorded moment even more epic.”
[1] Accuracy may differ by settings and surrounding conditions.
[2] Accuracy of Flaw Detection function may differ depending on surrounding conditions or subject. Blink detection works within 1.5 meters and a maximum of 3 people are detectable at the same time. Blur detection feature senses when the camera shakes, and recognizes face blur in the photo.
[3] Video is initially recorded at 480fps and digitally converted into 960fps footage.

The Samsung S Pen includes the following highlights:

  • The S Pen is now a remote for your Note9.
  • With the press of a button, you can snap photos, change slides, and pause YouTube—or set custom controls.1
  • Slip it back into the Note9 for 30 more minutes of power with just 40 seconds of charging.2
  • Pop out the S Pen to turn on the Screen off memo notepad—all without unlocking your phone.
  • From to-do lists to notes, write and pin them to the Always On Display for easy access or find it later in the Samsung Notes app.
  • With its open SDK (software development kit) later this year, developers will be able to integrate the S Pen’s intuitive controls into a wide range of apps that will allow you to streamline more tasks with a simple click.
1  S Pen remote function reaches up to 30 feet in an open space. Performance subject to circumstances.
2 S Pen battery life may vary based on usage. 30-minute measurement is based on average Bluetooth use.

The Super Powerful Galaxy Note9

  • Speed and Power: Galaxy Note9 is a super powerful smartphone with cutting-edge 10nm processor and support for the fastest network speeds available (up to 1.2 gigabits per second), so you can stream and download without slowing down.
  • Gaming: Galaxy Note9 features an innovative Water Carbon Cooling system, and on-device AI-based performance adjustment algorithm, so you can play graphics-rich games and still get stable performance. In all, the power, performance, vivid display and stereo speakers make the Galaxy Note9 ideal for mobile gaming. And for fans of Fortnite, one of the hottest mobile games, the Galaxy Note9 and the Galaxy Tab S4 offer special access to an exclusive Galaxy skin designed just for them.

Remote Control S Pen

Since the beginning, the S Pen—an essential productivity and creativity tool—has separated the Note from other premium devices. Now, with Bluetooth (BLE) connectivity, the S Pen becomes a powerful remote control. Use it to take, and be in, group selfies, or present slides and control playlists. The S Pen charges in the phone in under a minute, so it’s ready for you in a matter of moments. Developers can even bring the functionality of the S Pen to their apps later this year.

Intelligent Camera

Users want to take the best pictures possible, but they don’t want to have to search through their smartphone’s camera settings do it. To make it easier to take a great photo, the Galaxy Note9 introduces Scene Optimizer, which uses intelligence to identify the subject of the shot, automatically classify it into one of 20 categories, and adjust the settings accordingly. The result is an effortless, stunning shot. With Flaw Detection, if the subject’s eyes are closed, the image is blurry, or there is a smudge on the lens, the Galaxy Note9 will instantly notify you. That way, you can take another picture before you lose the moment.

In addition, the Galaxy Note9 features advanced noise reduction technology, and a Dual Aperture lens, which adjusts to light just like the human eye. No matter the lighting conditions, the top-tier camera delivers a crystal clear shot.
