The RIM BlackBerry PlayBook [aren’t you glad it’s not the Blackpad?] allows the content of its screen to be sent to a projector which you cannot do with the current Apple iPad; this capability is essential for the adoption of tablets in business and schools. The smaller screen size (7 inch) also means that medical personnel can more easily carry the PlayBook comfortably in the large pockets of their lab coats. And being open to developers mean that enterprises, schools, research labs, etc. can now at last fearlessly spend resources to develop the apps they need without worrying about whether Apple will allow it to run on its tablet or not. Add multiprocessing, multitasking, and the ability to display any sites, Flash and HTML5, and you have a serious device. The one feature missing (and which I hope RIM rectifies before the tablet is released) is GPS, which is essential to the usefulness of many apps.
