I also received the XF50-140mmF2.8 R LM OIS WR medium tele zoom lens for ths review. This is a “Red Badge” series lens, aimed for professionals. At first, I wondered why would anyone make a 2.8x tele zoom lens but then I quickly realized that this zoom lens offers the most frequently used telephoto focal lengths, equivalent to 76mm to 213mm, and a constant aperture of F2.8 throughout. (You can stop down the aperture to F22.) These focal lengths are ideal for portrait photography and the large aperture with seven rounded aperture blades create the desired smooth, circular bokeh. It features 5.0-stop optical image stabilization (allowing me to handhold the lens for all the test shots), a triple linear motor for fast autofocus, as well as dust / water and low temperature resistance. An inner zooming mechanism means the lens does not change length so the lens’ balance remains the same throughout the zoom range. Though you would purchase and use this lens primariy for portraiture, I used it in this review for general outdoor nature photography. For close ups, miminimum working distance is 1m for the entire zoom range.
