QUICKFACT SHEET

The Fujifilm X-T5 is an expert-level APS-C mirrorless camera specially targeted to enthusiast photographers. Unlike the X-T4 which introduced a Vari-Angle (full-articulated) LCD preferred by videographers, the X-T5 returns to the three-way tilt LCD preferred by photographers. Fujifilm is positioning the X-T5 as its premier photographic-centric mirrorless camera (with the X-H2 as its premier video-centric mirrorless camera). Even then, the X-T5 is also one of the best video cameras out there, shooting 6.2K/30p 4:2:2 10-bit and Ultra High Definition (UHD) 4K/30P videos (no crop).

The Fujifilm X-T5 faithfully continues to sport separate analog-style Shutter Speed dial, Aperture ring, Exposure Compensation dial, and ISO dial for direct control over exposure settings. The X-T5 also uses the X-Trans sensor used in all higher-level X Series cameras and features 19 of Fujifilm’s unique Film Simulations.

The X-T5 shoots excellent 40.2MP JPEG images. If you need more resolution, Pixel-Shift Multi-Shot produces a single, ultra-high-resolution 160MP image. It accepts interchangeable lenses using the X mount.

The X-T5 allows you to compose your shots using the high resolution 3.69M-dot OLED electronic viewfinder (EVF) at a huge 0.8x (equiv.) magnification or use the 3.0-inch 1.84M-dot 3-way tilting Touchscreen LCD on the back of the camera. 3-way tilt means that it tilts up, down and sideways (allowing up/down tilting in portrait mode). Most photographers prefer the EVF, lens and LCD to align on the optical axis for a more intuitive image-making experience. The LCD is also touch-screen so you can tap a point on the screen to lock focus, and use touch gestures to swipe right and left when reviewing images.

The Hybrid AF (Auto Focus) system uses a total of 425 AF points to quickly and precisely lock focus on your subject (People, Animals, Vehicles). Tracking AF has been significantly improved by adding color information and the object’s shape in its algorithm. For sharp portraits, Face and Eye Detection AF lock focus on your subject’s face and eyes. The AF low-light performance is -3.0EV using Contrast Detection or -6.0EV using Phase Detection, meaning you can lock focus in almost near darkness.

The X-T5 features in-body image stabilization (IBIS), achieving up to 7 stops of stabilization with 18 out of 29 FUJINON XF lenses and at least 5 stops of stabilization with the remaining 11.

It has dual UHS-II card slots. When recording video, you can record on one card and, when that is filled, automatically keep recording onto the second card. Or, you can record video onto both cards simultaneously, providing an instant backup copy.

We highly recommend the Fujifilm X-T5, probably the best hybrid stills/video mirrorless camera out there. If you are deciding between the X-T4 and the X-T5, go with the X-T5 for all the improvements it brings. If you currently have an X-T4 and are very happy with it, then you may choose not to upgrade.

At the top of Fujifilm’s APS-C mirrorless line-up, there are two models to choose from: 1) photographers who prefer using an optical viewfinder (vs. an electronic viewfinder) and do discreet photography with prime lenses will go for the X-Pro3 (2019, US $1,799.95), and 2) those who do not need an optical viewfinder (in fact, prefering a high resolution, fast-refreshed electronic viewfinder) and need a workhorse with 4K video will find the X-T5 (2022, US $1,699.95) has better specifications.
