Can The $99 NoteSlate Revolutionize Notetaking?

How many times have you reached for a blank piece of paper to scribble a note, sketch a drawing, explain a homework assignment or present a concept? Now imagine an etch-a-sketch with a twist: it allows you to write and draw with a stylus (or type using an optional keyboard) just like you’d do with pencil and paper. The stylus has a pointed tip like a pencil and the other end is the ” eraser.” The screen of the NoteSlate has 1080×760 pixels resolution, but only 1 bit, i.e. only one color. It accepts a SD card, has a USB port, and a phone jack. Think of it as the modern-day electronic equivalent of the pencil and paper. What else could be simpler?

In this age of the iPad, is there a place for a simple device like the NoteSlate? I believe so. However, at $99, it is a bit pricey for a simple scratchpad. It would be great if the developers used an open-sourced OS to allow other developers to add features to it. Who knows, maybe the NoteSlate could become a viable competitor to the Kindle and even the iPad.
