Olympus Monocular i Features 6x Magnification, Water and Fog Proof

The Olympus Monocular i does not look like your regular low-powered spotting scope or monocular but more like a high-end fashion optics complete with its expensive-looking carry pouch. Compact (87 x 38 mm / 3.4″ x 1.5″) and lightweight (70 g / 2.5 oz), you could just carry it in your pocket or small purse.

It provides 6x magnification, is weatherproof (waterproof to a depth of 1 m for 5 mins) and, being nitrogen-filled, resists condensation.

While it will most probably end up being used in a traditional setting such as at the theater, opera, concert, for bird counting, (or to look like a spy), I wonder if a photographer could also use it to quickly decide if a tele lens change would yield an interesting composition. I would use one to check if that egret I have been after for some time now is really perched on that island in the middle of the pond (or are these just some branches?) before actually opening my camera pack and take out my camera and tele lens.

CENTER VALLEY, Pa., February 5, 2016 — Today, Olympus America Inc. is pleased to announce the availability of the Monocular i, a lightweight, yet powerful alternative to cumbersome binoculars, with 6x magnification, enabling you to appreciate the subtle interplay of the orchestra, or see expressions on the actors’ faces at the theater. At about half the size and weight of standard binoculars, the sleek, premium design fits in almost any pocket or purse. The Monocular i is waterproof1 and nitrogen-filled, preventing condensation.

The Monocular i boasts a unique design that features soft, gentle curves and elegant white and beige body colors. Its stylish, eye-catching appearance is not all that sets the Monocular i apart from conventional monoculars. Inside the fresh contours you’ll find some of Olympus’s most advanced optical technology including powerful coating technology to ensure a clear, bright field of view.

The Monocular i’s sliding focus adjustment structure enables quick and easy focusing. With its stylish design and advanced functionality, the Monocular i is not only ideal for settings in which the monocular has traditionally been used such as travel and outdoors, but also in any situation where a closer view would be appealing, including artistic events such as the theater or opera, concerts or fashion shows, as well as art exhibitions and seminars.

U.S. Pricing and Availability
The Monocular i is available now for an estimated street price of $89.99 (U.S.) and $119.99 (Canada), and comes bundled with a protective pouch and neck strap.
