Canon EOS 7D Review @ Photocrati

Mon February 8, 2010

Canon EOS 7D

Canon EOS 7D

Awesome still capture capabilities.

We’ve added a new Canon EOS 7D [Specs] review to our Reviews Matrix.

Photocrati has posted their review of the Canon EOS 7D, an APS-C DSLR camera targeted to serious photographers and Canon’s answer to Nikon’s popular D300. The Canon EOS 7D is positioned just below the full-frame EOS 5D Mark II, has 19MP resolution, Continuous Shooting at 8fps, and Full HD Video capture at 1920 x 1080 resolution with selectable frame rates of 24p, 25p or 30p. “Though the image quality is not quite up to the standard of the $2,600 full-frame EOS 5D Mark II … the Canon 7D [is] a great choice for low light shooting.”

Wedding Photography Metering Mode

Sun February 7, 2010

Weddings pose special challenges to the photographer, especially when the bride wears a white dress and the groom a black tuxedo. If you leave your camera on the default multiple-pattern (matrix) metering, you may not be able to capture the bride’s white dress properly. What metering mode to use?

Q and A: RAW Capture @ Photocrati

Fri December 11, 2009

Q. I need some advice about using RAW capture mode. I have just started shooting in RAW mode but after some research on the Internet, I still have some questions about RAW. Why won’t Photoshop CS3 or Elements 7 open and convert the RAW files from my EOS T1i? Also, when using the Canon DPP software, should I save the photos to an 8-bit Tif or a 16-bit Tif?

Pentax K-7 Review @ Photocrati

Mon November 30, 2009

Pentax K-7

Pentax K-7

Peter Burian tests this rugged, well-sealed 14.5MP camera with pro caliber versatility and extras such as Movie mode and in-camera HDR

The flagship of the Pentax DLSR series, the K-7 is an unusually rugged semi-professional 14.5 MP camera that’s built like a tank: with a splash-proof magnesium alloy body over a stainless steel chassis. While the 14.5 megapixel K20D is less pricey, the K-7 is even more desirable. This newer model retains all of the K20D’s best features but provides significant benefits: faster (5.2 fps) drive speed, larger 3″ LCD with 920,000 dot resolution, a viewfinder with 100% coverage, plus upgrades for the sensor, processor, autofocus system, built-in image stabilizer and evaluative metering (now with 77 zones). More importantly, the K-7 offers some entirely new functions, including HD Movie mode.
