Olympus OM-D E-M5 Review @ Neocamera

Thu November 8, 2012 | by Itai Danan

Olympus OM-D E-M5 Review Published at Neocamera

A detailed review of the flagship mirrorless from Olympus was publsihed at Neocamera. This 16 MP Micro Four-Thirds camera is the first Olympus with a built-in EVF and weather-sealed body. It’s extensive feature set, numerous controls including dual control-dials make it ready for professional use.

This in-depth review covers usability, image quality and performance of the Olympus OM-D E-M5. Included is a gallery of full-resolution images from ISO 200 to 25600 and side-by-side comparison of image noise with the Fuji X-Pro1.

Read the review and be sure to check the bonus comparison page between different sensor-sizes used by interchangeable lens cameras from Micro Four-Thirds to Full-Frame. This one shows the relative performance of state-of-the-art sensors.

Who’s Replacing Their Canon DSLRs with Olympus OM-D E-M5?

Tue August 14, 2012

An interesting article over at ePHOTOzine by photographer brian1208 who has finally switched from his Canon D60 DSLR to the Olympus OM-D E-M5. The main reason it seems is weight, since the OM-D plus 4 lenses are easily 3x lighter than the corresponding Canon system. I wonder how many other photographers are making similar choices, replacing their traditional mirrored DSLR with an equivalent compact and lighter mirrorless DSLR. Give us a shout if you are planning to do so or have already done so, stating your reasons.

Canon EOS 5D Mk2 + 17-55mm L IS + 24-105mm L IS + 100mm L IS macro + 70-300mm L IS = 3.8kg
Olympus OM-D EM-5 + 9-18mm + 12-50mm + 45mm f1.8 + 75-300mm = 1.24 kg

Read the article and view Brian’s photos at: ePHOTOzine.

If I were in the market for a mirrorless, interchangeable lens compact digital and was not wedded to any particular manufacturer or system, the [Olympus] E-M5 would probably be it.
