The new Panasonic DMC-LX5 continues in the tradition of one of the most popular serious compact digital camera among photo enthusiasts and features 10.1MP resolution (1/1.63-in. CCD), 3.8x optical zoom (24-90mm equiv.), optical Image Stabilization to help reduce blurred shots due to camera shake, a 7.6-cm (3.0-in.) LCD display screen (460k-dot), and HD Movie 1280×720 @ 30fps in AVCHD Lite with high quality monaural audio.

The LX5 holds on to its 10.1MP CCD and resists the temptation of increasing the resolution at the expense of low noise high ISO capability. It has however improved the sensor with new redesigned microlenses for greater dynamic range and cleaner images at high ISO.

The LX5 improves on the LX3 with a new ultra-bright F2.0 LEICA DC VARIO-SUMMICRON lens (F2.8 on the LX3), 3.8x ultra wide-angle 24-90mm optical zoom (2.5x 24-60mm on the LX3), a redesigned High Sensitivity CCD for better low noise high ISO capability, a clickable control wheel (mini joystick on the LX3), a new Creative Movie mode which allows the shutter speed and aperture to be set manually, the ability to zoom during video recording, and a slightly thicker, more comfortable grip.

A hot shoe allows the attachment of the optional Live View Finder or an external flash. Other optional accessories include a Wide Conversion Lens, ND Filter and External Flashes.

The Panasonic LX5 uses the SD / SDHC / SDXC memory card.

The Panasonic Lumix DMC-LX5 promises to be even more popular than its predecessor in providing high quality images and high performance in a compact body. It is targeted to enthusiasts desiring a high quality compact camera and is available in Black, priced at about US $499.95 (CAD $499.95).
