Enthusiast DSLR adds full HD 1080p Movie. The Canon EOS 60D occupies a new position between the Family T2i/550D and the semi-pro 7D. It features 18MP resolution on a large APS-C CMOS image sensor, a large 3.0-in. high resolution (1.04 million dots) Vari-angle LCD display screen, ISO range of 100-6400 (expandable to 12,800), and Full HD Movie 1920×1080 at 30fps. It is targeted to serious amateur photographers.

Canon has opted for Lens-shift (Optical) Image Stabilization (OIS) in its digital SLRs. For the EOS 60D, Image Stabilization is available in the EF-S 18-55mm [29-88mm equiv.] f/3.5-5.6 IS kit lens.

The EOS 60D has a large Vari-Angle 3-inch (7.6-centimetre) Clear View LCD screen with a high 1,040,000 dot/VGA resolution plus anti-reflective and smudge-resistant coatings for bright clear viewing from any angle. The new LCD screen is ideal for composing low-angle or overhead shots whether capturing still images or video.

The EOS 60D records in Full HD video at 1920 x 1080 resolution with selectable frame rates of 24p, 25p or 30p. Movie mode also includes manual controls for exposure. A 9-point AF system utilizes a high-precision f/2.8 cross-type center point. The 9 focus points can be chosen automatically or manually selected.

Advanced photographers will appreciate the full exposure flexibility provided by the PASM (Program AE, Aperture-Priority AE, Shutter-Priority AE, Manual) modes, as well as the availability of RAW file capture.

The EOS 60D is compatible with all Canon lenses in the EF lineup, including compact and lightweight EF-S lenses, ranging from ultra-wide angle to super telephoto lenses. As with any interchangeable lens camera, dust can enter the camera and land on the sensor whenever a lens is changed. The EOS 60D has a Self Cleaning Sensor Unit that shakes off dust on the front of the sensor everytime the camera is turned ON or OFF.

The Canon EOS 60D bridges the gap between an entry-level camera and an advanced digital SLR camera. It is an ideal DSLR for the serious photographer.

The Canon EOS 60D is priced about US $800 (CAD $900) body only, or US $900 (CAD $1000) with the EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS zoom lens.
