A battle is brewing with Sony publicly throwing down the gauntlet. In an interview with the Wall Street Journal, Sony’s CFO Nobuyuki Oneda announced Sony’s intention to take on Apple’s iPad. “We are confident we have the skills to create a [great] product,” said Oneda. The new Sony iPad challenger — as well as a new smartphone to compete with the iPhone– are planned for later this year, which tells us that they are probably already developed and may be currently in testing.
Sony used to be known as the company that was driven by innovation, but has faltered these past few years while Apple has introduced products with wide mass appeal one after another. Other companies have tried to take on Apple but their second rate copycats have not made a dent. Can Sony take on Apple with really innovative products? This should be very interesting.[ via CNN ]
