This Samsung ad for 3D TV is pretty original — and naughty. Just where do they show these ads anyway? Don’t remember ever seeing one.

Ridgefield Park, New Jersey – December 28, 2010 – Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd, a global leader in digital media and digital convergence technologies, today announced the launch of the NX11 – the latest addition to the highly successful NX family of cameras. The NX11 contains a feature set similar to Samsung’s first mirrorless interchangeable lens camera, the NX10, however the NX11 is also compatible with the new i-Function lens that was introduced for the NX100. The NX11 will come complete with an 18-55mm i-Function lens, as well as two new i-Function lenses, a 20mm pancake and a 20-50mm zoom silver color lens. The launch reinforces the company’s commitment to leading innovation in the compact system camera market.
The i-Function lens puts the perfect picture at the fingertips of all photographers by providing an exceptionally easy way of controlling the camera. Since a typical camera user wraps their hand around the lens when holding the camera, the new i-Function system allows photographers to naturally use their left hand to change the camera’s advanced settings via a button built into the i-Function lens, without needing to take the camera off the target. Users can toggle between shutter speed, aperture, EV, WB, and ISO quickly and easily by simply using the i-Function button or ring on the lens, meaning easier and quicker configurations while shooting.

If there was ever an ad that I hated, it would have to be the Apple “Get A Mac” (Mac vs PC) campaign starring John Hodgman and Justin Long. Great ads. Very successful ads. And I hated every single one of them. Got me to buy a Mac, too.
So here they are, all 66 of them for your enjoyment at: AdFreak.
To me, design is… from Vostok on Vimeo.
I think it is a bit presumptuous for anyone to be talking about good design. Ask a designer how she or he came up with a particularly good design and the answer might be any one of those you’ll watch on the video. But the true answer is a bit more difficult to pin down. Because if it were that easy, there would be more products (and websites) designed properly, beautifully, elegantly. The very fact that there aren’t (and we have to ask) tells us that good design is more art than science, more fortuitous than purposeful.
The same goes with a good photograph. The photographer might say one thing, but try to follow exactly what he or she said and you will not an Ansel Adams become.
Often, all the elements line up fortuitously for us: the right light, the right angle, the right colors, the right expression,…. It does not mean that the photographer does not have a part to play in the making of a great photograph: to know the techniques, to be at the right time and place, to anticipate the right action, to learn to see the picture, to select the right exposure,…. But once the photograph is taken, what should we say? I planned it thus? This is exactly what I wanted to achieve and I set it all up? I post processed it expertly?
It’s all that, plus luck.
Just as in a good design, a swipe of the pencil drew the right curve, in photography likewise, a snapshot often turns out to be the prize winning photograph. All our training, all our practice, the days and nights we spent waiting for the right light, the right action, all come together to one moment we see happening from the corner of our eyes, giving us just enough time to turn, point, focus, set exposure and click. And the moment has passed… and we wonder if we caught it. Playback. And here it is! To me, that is photography….
December 2010 Blizzard Timelapse from Michael Black on Vimeo.
Just how much did it snow? Luckily, Michael Black set up his DSLR and recorded it.
View his December 2010 Blizzard Timelapse that compresses about 20 hours into 40 seconds (approx. one photo every five minutes). It’s amazing that the clock kept working even buried in snow.
From PiXMagazine
When PiX Magazine needed a cover shoot for its December / January 2011 issue, they turned to the Nokia N8 phone with its 12MP camera to get the job done. Of course, as the video shoot clearly shows, professional lighting makes all the difference.
The question now is, if a camera phone with its tiny image sensor can produce pictures of this quality, why are you still complaning about your DSLR? Resolve to become a better photographer in 2011!
