ROM Wildlife Photographer of the Year Contest for Legal Residents Ages 13 and Older in Ontario, Canada: Share Your Wildlife / Natural World Images and Include @ROMtoronto and #ROMWpy JR before 11:59 PM EST on January 31, 2017

The ROM Wildlife Photographer of the Year contest invites amateur or professional photographers to share captivating images of the natural world for a chance to win prizes and have your photograph on display at the Royal Ontario Museum (ROM) in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.

Youth Category (Ages 13 – 17)

Eligibility

  • The Royal Ontario Museum’s “ROM Wildlife Photographer of the Year Contest – Youth Category” (the “Contest”) is open to all legal residents of Ontario, Canada who are 13 years – 17 years of age  (Youth Category) or older (Adult Category) at the time of entry in order to be eligible to enter the Contest.

Grand Prize:

Youth Category (ages 13 -17)

  • ROM Birding / Photography workshop for two (2). Hone your bird photography skills with ROM Ornithologist, Mark Peck.
  • Behind-the-scenes Tour for two (2). An exclusive look behind the scenes at the ROM’s collections to see what the Museum keeps behind closed doors.
  • SONY ALPHA A7 II W/FE 28-70MM LENS. Full-frame Mirrorless Camera with lens courtesy of Henry’s.

  • One-year ROM Family Membership. Enjoy unlimited free access to exhibitions and galleries all year long.
  • The winning photograph will be displayed at the ROM.
  • The approximate value of the Grand Prize is $4000 CDN.

Adult Category (ages 18+)

  • A trip for two (2) courtesy of ROM Biodiversity. Experience an awe-filled 7 day marine expedition for two with the Mingan Island Cetacean Study (MICS) team on the beautiful north shore of the St Lawrence in Eastern Quebec. See and photograph whales with the world’s top blue whale scientists
    Travel Dates: Between July 20 to September 10, 2017. Trip starts and ends in Toronto. Accommodations, meals and boat trip included.

  • The winning photograph will be displayed at the ROM.
  • The approximate value of the Grand Prize is $7500 CDN.

Honourable Mention Prizes (x2) for both Youth Category and Adult Category:

  • There will be one (2) Honourable Mention Prizes for each category, consisting of: one-year ROM Family Membership.
  • Enjoy unlimited free access to exhibitions and galleries all year long, attend exclusive previews and events, Member-only discounts, plus so much more.
  • The approximate value of each Honorable Mention Prize is $149 CDN.

The winners will be contacted February 27, 2017.

Entry

  • No purchase necessary.
  • Eligible photos must have “wildlife” as the subject matter; which includes nature themes ranging from intimate animal portraits to atmospheric landscapes. Photos will be collected and displayed at www.rom.on.ca/wpy.
  • There are no restrictions as to how many times a person may to enter the Contest, but each Entry must contain a unique photograph and must be accompanied by @ROMtoronto and #ROMwpyJR.
  • Submit your entries before January 31, 2017 at 11:59 PM EST
  • How to enter:

Judging

  • The winners will be chosen and evaluated based on the following criteria:
      • content/originality
      • technical quality, and
      • visual impact.
