AU-EVA1 firmware was updated to Ver. 2.50 (May 31, 2018)

Panasonic recently announced a firmware upgrade to the Panasonic AU-EVA1 compact cinema camera.

  • Panasonic’s firmware update Ver. 2.50 (May 31, 2018) for the Panasonic AU-EVA1 series (Models AU-EVA1P AU-EVA1PJ AU-EVA1EJ AU-EVA1EN AU-EVA1ED AU-EVA1AN AU-EVA1PX AU-EVA1MC) compact cinema camera.

This firmware provides the following new features and improvements:
New Features

    1. Improvement to the noise in low light conditions “SMOOTH”, which has more NR effect, is added to the Noise Reduction (NR) menu.
      Also, the menu name is changed from “NR” to “NOISE REDUCTION”.
      [Related Menu] CAMERA SETTINGS
      -> NOISE REDUCTION
      -> ISO800/ISO2500: SMOOTH, NORMAL2, NORMAL1, OFF (Factory default setting is OFF.)
    2. Additional compatible lenses
      Canon CN-E lens: ONE PUSH AF operation verified
      Other verified lenses

      EF-S 17-55mm F2.8 IS USM

Improvements

    1. Default setting of FOCUS EXPAND MODE is changed from “HOLD” to “10SEC”. (To prevent users from falsely believing that their cameras are malfunctioning while they are simply in the EXPAND mode)
    2. Improvement in COLOR SETTING menu display It is improved so that not only SCENE FILE numbers but also SCENE FILE names are displayed.
    3. A particular lens may not have its IRIS working at high-speed fps settings. This problem is fixed.
      Conditions
      Lens: Canon EF17-40mm F4L USM
      75 fps or higher (frame rate) at 50 Hz (system frequency)
      90 fps or higher (frame rate) at 60 Hz (system frequency)

“Cinematographer Karl Janisse worked with the new Panasonic EVA-1 and the full kit of Sigma CINE Prime lenses to capture the climb of Everest’s 29029. Participants had 36 hours to complete 17 summits and Karl was along for the ride with his team at Blackout Media.

“Working with the EVA1 was a dream. From the onset of this project we knew that any camera package we used would have to be lightweight, portable, ready for the elements and capable of pulling in a high resolution to give us breathing room in post production for doing movements that weren’t possible under the conditions. Climbing Stratton mountain 17 times over the course of 48hrs was no easy feat. The very lightweight body and built in stabilizer and NDs meant that we were able to keep the payload as low as possible for the climbs. Overall I think it fits perfectly between the compact but capable GH5 and the workhorse Varicam LT. We are so thankful to Panasonic Canada for allowing us to take the EVA 1 on this adventure.” –Karl Janisse, Cinematographer“
