QUICKFACT SHEET

The Nikon Z 9 is Nikon’s flagship full-frame mirrorless camera. It combines excellent image quality, one of the world’s best (some argue it is the best) Tracking AF, 120fps (11MP) / 30fps JPEG / 20fps RAW Continuous Shooting, and 8K/30P RAW and 4K/120P video shooting.

Nikon has poured all its technological and photographic know-how into the Z 9. The Z 9 boasts a blackout-free EVF, an all-electronic shutter with minimal rolling shutter, probably the world’s best tracking AF (some claim it is even better than that in the Sony A1, as if it were possible), and an insanely fast 120 frames per second continuous shooting at 11MP JPEG. Or, shoot at 20fps RAW with a 1,000 frames buffer. Add in Pre-Release Capture and you have no excuse for not nailing the shot.

Faithful to its pro status, it has an integrated vertical grip — which also makes the Z 9 a big camera, and just a tad lighter and smaller than the D6 DSLR: 8% lighter (1160g vs. 1270g) and 20% smaller (149 mm x 149.5 mm x 90.5 mm vs. 160 mm x 163 mm x 92 mm). This makes the Z 9 almost the same size as the Canon EOS R3 and a whole lot bigger than the Sony A1:

It’s interesting how Nikon has taken the electronic shutter to a high new level. The Sony Alpha 1 showed that a pro camera could rely on the electronic shutter to pretty much do everything, stills and videos, but Nikon has gone one step further by ditching the mechanical shutter completely and relying exclusively on the electronic shutter.

The Z 9 should be excellent for pro sports, wedding, landscape and wildlife photography.
