How Do You Film Light Photons? At 1 Trillion FPS.

From MITNewsOffice

We covered this before but it seems such an impossible task to photograph light photons. AFter all, they are what allow us to see so how can we slow them down enough to see them in motion? By filming them at one trillion frames per second, that’s how. They used their imaging system to capture in extreme slow-motion a burst of light traveling the length of a one-liter plastic bottle, bouncing off the cap and reflecting back to the bottle’s bottom.

MIT Media Lab researchers have created a new imaging system that can acquire visual data at a rate of one trillion frames per second. That’s fast enough to produce a slow-motion video of light traveling through objects.
