Dot. The world’s smallest stop-motion animation character

From nokia

Professor Fletcher’s invention of the CellScope, which is a cellphone with a microscope attachment, is a brillant device that help to saves lives. It was the inspiration for a teeny-tiny film created by Sumo Science at Aardman. It stars a 9mm tall girl called Dot as she struggles through a microscopic world.

The Cellscope technology was retrofitted to attach to a Nokia N8 cellphone with its 12 megapixel camera and Carl Zeiss optics. There is no reason why it cannot also be easily retrofitted to attach to any cellphone camera.

And here’s the behind the scenes:

50 replacement resin Dots were printed using a 3D printer. Each pose required 3 stand-ins. The 5 min movie was animated about 4 seconds a day. The set, not the camera, moved to simulate movement.
