Canon Female Photojournalist Award for Female Photojournalists of Any Age & Nationality: Submit Entries Before 22 May 2015

Canon France and Images Evidence invite professional female photojournalists of any age and nationality to submit their photo-reportages to the Canon Female Photojournalist Award competition.

  • The application dossier must be sent before May 22, 2015.

Prize

The winner will receive the 8 000 euros (8,647.339 US Dollars at the current exchange rate).

…Article 2 – Objective
The Canon Female Photojournalist Award is presented to a female photojournalist in activity who wishes to cover a social, economic, political or cultural subject in a journalistic manner, on presentation of a dossier, including the documents and works stipulated in Article 5.

The Award will be given to an individual photojournalist and not to a group, without any consideration of her nationality.

The Award is given in order to allow the winner to carry out the photo-reportage which has been presented for the Award….

Article 5 – Application conditions
The conditions are as follows:

– applicants must be female
– applicants must have completed at least one photo-reportage (published or unpublished)
– applicants must be professional photojournalists
– applicants must be able to write and speak in French or English

The jury, which will be made up of people in the profession, will give the Award based on the professional qualities of the applicant and the relevance and originality of the project.

  • In June 2015, the jury will start selecting and studying the dossiers before choosing the winner.
  • The winner will produce an ongoing one year project which will lead to an exhibition or showing at the 28th International Festival of Photojournalism « Visa pour l’Image-Perpignan » in September 2016.

The applicant agrees that, should she obtain the Award, she will be in Perpignan on the 5th of September 2015 to attend the evening projection of the 27th International Festival of Photojournalism « Visa pour l’Image-Perpignan », where she will be presented with the Award by representatives of Canon.

  • The winner will receive the 8 000 euros at Visa pour l’Image in Perpignan in September.
  • The Applicant chosen by the jury will receive a notification.
  • In the event that the Applicant should not attend this notification, she will be disqualified.

….The applicant agrees that, should she obtain the Award, she will include the title « Winner of the Canon Female Photojournalist Award » in the photo-reportage and in all communication connected with it and that she will keep Canon and Images Evidence informed about the progress of the project and what results she has obtained. She also agrees to let the Images Evidence and/or Canon present her photographs financed with the award, for an exhibition of the works of the award winners, and the publication of a catalogue.

The applicant agrees that, should she obtain the Award, she will not present the same project for any other Award until the Visa Pour l’Image – Perpignan Festival 2016, when her work financed by the award will be exhibited or presented during an evening show….

Should she obtain the Award, the Applicant agrees to finish her photo-reportage by the 15th of April 2016 at the latest, to enable her work to be available for exhibition or showing evening during the 28th International Festival of Photojournalism « Visa pour l’Image-Perpignan » which will take place during the first two weeks of September 2016.

For the publicity related to the prize, the winner commits to give five high-resolution images free of charge as well as a portrait of herself to Canon and Images Evidence. Once her work has been completed, she also commits to give three photos free of charge to the latter and all the high-resolution images from the project she realised thanks to the award.

In 2015, ELLE Magazine is sostaining the present award. ELLE Magazine may publish the winner’s report, since the period of the 2016 Festival Visa pour l’Image. The winner agrees to be eventually published and will discuss, if it happens, the terms of the contract with the magazine’s team.

The Winner agrees not to reapply for a period of 5 years. Under no circumstances will the Award be given to the same applicant two years running….

Canon France, in association with Images Evidence, has announced that the 15th annual Canon Female Photojournalist Award is open until 22 May 2015 for submissions from female photojournalists of any age and nationality.

Once again, the award is supported by Elle magazine and Canon France will grant the winning female photojournalist €8,000 to help her to continue and complete a photojournalistic project on a social, economic, political or cultural subject.

A jury made up of photography and press professionals will select the winner in June. Applicants will be judged by both the presentation of their project and their previous work. Among the selection criteria are the quality of the photographs, as well as the journalistic thoughts and relevance of the chosen subject.

The Award will be presented to the winner at the Visa pour l’Image international festival of photojournalism in Perpignan, France, during the professional week from 31 August – 6 September 2015. The winner will produce an ongoing one year project which will lead to an exhibition or showing at the Festival in 2016.
