Engel was later able to write a new novel largely based on personal experience, Memory Book: A Benny Cooperman Detective Novel (Benny Cooperman Mysteries) ( CA | UK ). He later published The Man Who Forgot How to Read: A Memoir ( CA | UK ), a memoir of the time he spent recovering from the stroke.
