Nikon 1 S1 Review @ TechRadar

Tue April 30, 2013 | by techradar

Nikon 1 S1 grey front-900-75

TechRadar has published its Nikon 1 S1 review.

At the start of this year, Nikon introduced a new line to the already existing 1 V and 1 J series in the shape of the Nikon 1 S1. This is Nikon’s simplest compact system camera to date, and is a no frills version of the Nikon 1 J3. That means it comes without the fuss of mode dials and lots of buttons, instead concentrating on enabling you to take pictures. It still has all the manual control and raw shooting capability that you would expect of a camera with interchangeable lenses, it’s just buried a little deeper – enabling you to explore those options if you want to, but also ignoring them if it’s not for you.

Sensor Comparisons @ Digital Camera Database

Wed October 24, 2012 | by gregorb

The heart of every digital camera is a rectangular light-sensitive silicon chip commonly known as the sensor. They come in a variety of sizes, from full-frame (36 mm x 24 mm) to tiny sensors found in point & shoot cameras. At digicamdb.com it’s easy to see how big (or rather how small) sensors really are.

Sensors in point & shoot cameras tend to be very small, most of the times smaller than the size of the fingernail on your little finger. Compared to point & shoot cameras DSLRs have enormous sensors. Take this extreme example – Nikon D4 vs. Nikon S01:

The difference in surface area is a staggering 4563%, meaning that a full frame sensor can be as much as 46 times bigger than a sensor in point & shoot camera.

If you ever wondered why point & shoot cameras can’t possibly produce the same image quality as DSLRs (althought they might have a similar pixel count), the answer, or at least one of the biggest factors, is sensor size.

At Digital Camera Database you can compare actual sensor sizes and other important sensor characteristics (such as pixel pitch, pixel area, pixel density, etc.) for more than 3200 digital cameras.

Social sharing your favorite photos and videos just got way easier with the Samsung GALAXY Camera. It is a super zoom digital camera featuring 21x optical zoom (23-483mm equiv.), optical image stabilization, 16.3MP resolution, a 4.8-in. LCD, and Wi-Fi. The clincher: it is powered by Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, which makes the user interface intuitive for those weaned on the latest generation of smart phones.

From the front and top, the Samsung GALAXY Camera looks and handles like a traditional camera with the familiar grip, shutter release button and zoom lever. Look at the back and you’ll quickly find that the Android platform is central to controlling all the features of the camera via the touch screen LCD. The user interface is very pretty, slick and intuitive. The Android OS brings voice control, downloadable apps and easy sharing to social sites.

The huge 4.8-in. LCD is bright and clear. It also means that the camera is big. Though this is basically a point-and-shoot camera, advanced photographers will appreciate the availability of PASM shooting modes.

You can record about 20-25 minutes of HD 1080p movies 1920 x 1080 @ 30fps with monaural sound.

The Samsung GALAXY Camera is available in black or white.
