Panasonic Lumix DMC-G2

PhotoRadar has published their review of the Panasonic Lumix DMC-G2, successor to the G1, with a touch screen interface that can be used to select the focus point, adjust camera settings and fire the shutter (the traditional control buttons are still present). Feature-wise, the G2 is similar to the G1 but adds HD Movie in AVCHD Lite with monaural sound (stereo with optional adapter). The Control Dial has also moved from the front of the handgrip to the back at the thumbrest area.

The prestigious Veolia Environnement Wildlife Photographer of the Year photo competition seems to court controversies. After disqualifing the 2009 winning entry of the photographer José Luis Rodríguez, The Storybook Wolf, it is now explaning itself on another controversy. A new rule states that it will not allow pictures taken on digital cameras with less than 10MP.

The reasoning behind the rule change is that winning entries need to be printed mega museum large scale and pictures with less than 10MP just don’t cut it. [Ever thought of displaying digital images on digital screens?] So, beware photographers and camera manufacturers, maybe we need a new “Approved by VEWPOTY” decal on new cameras with 10+MP.

If ever you needed a valid reason to convince yourself or your significant other on the dire need to upgrade to the newest digital camera, just remember that you may win at the Veolia Environnement Wildlife Photographer of the Year photo competition and you wouldn’t want your winning entry to get disqualified because of a shortage of megapixels now, would you?
