The Nikon V1’s image quality is pretty good for its size [though] it doesn’t quite rival the image quality of competing Micro Four Thirds and APS-C compact system cameras at higher ISOs.

Nikon 1 V1 Review @ CameraLabs

Wed December 21, 2011

Nikon V1

Nikon V1

The [Nikon] V1 isn’t about ultimate image quality – it’s about being able to capture a moment which eludes most cameras, and this it does with a degree of confidence and consistency which quickly becomes addictive.

We’ve added a new Nikon 1 V1 [QuickPrice Check] Review to our Reviews Matrix.

CameraLabs has posted their review of the Nikon 1 V1, a compact mirrorless with 10.1MP resolution (on a 1.0-in. 13.2 x 8.8mm CMOS sensor), interchangeable lens on Nikon 1 mount, 3.0-in. Nikon 1 J1 Review @ sansMirror

Wed December 14, 2011

Nikon 1 J1

Nikon 1 J1

It’s like putting a V12 in a minivan: this camera appeals to Joe/Jill Consumer, but it has a racing engine underneath. Focus speed, frame rate, video excel.

Editor’s note: I suspect that Nikon is probably very happy with Thom Hogan’s review in spite of the rants therein of the “complete novice design philosophy” of the Nikon 1 J1 and of bypassing the DSLR users who want to downgrade. Nikon does NOT want their DSLR users to downgrade to the compact mirrorless, period. Every design aspect of the 1 System seems to have been taken to steer the traditional DSLR users away from the 1 System. So, if Thom Hogan’s review firmly convinces DSLR users to stay with Nikon’s traditional mirrored DSLR, the Nikon 1 designers are probably receiving a hefty bonus this holiday season. Ho, ho, ho.

We’ve added a new Nikon 1 J1 [QuickPrice Check] Review to our Reviews Matrix.
