Sony SLT-A65 Review @ TechRadar

Mon December 12, 2011

Sony SLT-A65

Sony SLT-A65

In many other respects – namely its AF speed, the size of its viewfinder, Full HD movie mode and overall level of responsiveness – the A65 is a class-leader, matching and sometimes even exceeding the specifications belonging to some of its closest rivals.

We’ve added a new Sony SLT-A65 [QuickPrice Check] Review to our Reviews Matrix.

TechRadar has just published their review of the Sony SLT-A65, a Digital Interchangeable Lens (DIL) camera with a 24.3MP APS HD CMOS sensor (23.5 x 15.6mm), 0.50-in XGA OLED EVF (Electronic viewfinder) (2,359k dots), articulated 3.0-in. tiltable LCD (921k-dot), 15 points Phase-detection AF (3 points cross type), Continuous Shooting at 10fps, built-in GPS, and 1920 x 1080/60p AVCHD movie with stereo sound. The fixed translucent (semi-transparent) mirror allows full-time Live View and full-time Phase-detection AF even when recording HD movies.

Weird Stuff

Another Reason To Avoid Buying A DSLR or Stupidity Reigns In Our Midst

Wed December 7, 2011

This prohibition to using a DSLR takes the prize: “Due to their combination of high-quality sensor and high resolution, digital SLR cameras are unfortunately not permitted inside the station.”

How asinine can this be? This sign is posted at the entrance of the London Transport Museum since digital SLRs “are classed as professional equipment.” Note that there is no ban on taking photos, only on using “big” DSLRs and tripods which could “risk the safety of the majority of people for a minority.”

So is the ban due to the high-quality/high resolution of DSLRs or for safety reason?

So, y’all just bring your non-professional looking compact mirrorless now and you’ll be fine.

Interview With Canon Execs on EOS-1D X

Wed November 23, 2011

Canon EOS-1D X

Canon EOS-1D X

The Canon EOS-1D X is the replacement for both the EOS-1D Mark IV and EOS-1Ds Mark III, and is slated for late March 2012, just in time for the 2012 London Olympics. The “X” apparently stands for “Crossover” or “Xtreme” or even the 10th generation EOS (or something like that).

DC Watch has an interview of the execs responsible for the design and development of the camera. It is in Japanese and we provide a [rather crude] English translation via Google translate.

Sony SLT-A77 Review @ TechRadar

Thu November 17, 2011

Sony SLT-A77

Sony SLT-A77

The AF system is blisteringly quick and accurate [but] a bit of a sluggish start-up time, slight delay when switching between using the EVF and LCD for shooting and high ISO noise performance that, while still very good, doesn’t quite match that of its major rivals.

We’ve added a new Sony SLT-A77 [QuickPrice Check] to our Reviews Matrix.

TechRadar has published their review of the Sony SLT-A77, a weather-resistant, translucent mirror DSLR with 24.3MP (23.5 X 15.6mm Exmor™ APS HD CMOS sensor), Sony A-mount, Sensor-shift Image Stabilization, 3.0-in. (921K-dot) Tilt/Swivel LCD, top-mounted LCD, 0.50-in. XGA OLED EVF (Electronic viewfinder) (2,359k dots), 19 points (11 points cross type) Full-time Phase-detection AF, PASM, Scene Modes, Shutter speeds range 1/8000 to 30 seconds plus Bulb, Continuous Shooting 12fps (Continuous Priority AE), Auto HDR, Sweep Panorama, D-Range Optimizer, ISO (50) 100-12800 (16000), Hi-speed sync flash capability, Picture Effects, built-in GPS, and Full HD Movie with manual controls. The Translucent Mirror Technology allows the SLT-A77 to have full-time super fast Phase-detection AF in Live View Still and Movie recording.
