Apple Jobs to Adobe: Ummph!

Sun April 11, 2010

In this Mashable post, it seems that Apple’s own developers are walking on egg shells concerning the “Thou shalt code iPhone/iPad apps only in C/C++/Objective-C without the aid of code generators” or something to that effect directive that apparently comes directly from Steve Jobs. Jobs’ response: “We’ve been there before.” So no backing down.

Adobe Brimelow to Apple Jobs: “Go [blip] Yourself!”

Sat April 10, 2010

Adobe Platform Evangelist Lee Brimelow did not mince his words yesterday on his Flash Blog as he told Steve Jobs, “Go [blip] yourself Apple.”

To understand why this extreme reaction from Adobe, we have to go back to Apple’s announcement that its new iPhone 4.0 SDK will not tolerate the use of non-Apple-approved programming languages. Adobe understands this to mean that if you develop an app for the iPhone but uses Adobe’s software to do so, you will be in violation of terms and your app will not be accepted in the App Store.

Find all current special offers on Adobe products.

Note that what is at stake here is not whether the app runs properly on the iPhone but what language was used originally to create it. Is that allowed? Can Apple dictate what software you use to create their app? Why would anyone care whether you use Adobe software or Notepad to write your iPhone app? Apparently Apple does!

Photoshop Content-Aware Feature Gets Experts All Flustered

Fri April 9, 2010

Interesting article over at Photoshelter who asked the “experts” to weigh in on Photoshop’s new Content-Aware feature that allows digital manipulation so easy that even a newbie can do it.

One of the major implications is that it will now be even more difficult to know what “original photograph” means anymore, especially if camera manufacturers start to migrate that feature directly into their cameras.

Also every photo contest that forbids digital manipulation will have to insist that every photo submission be accompanied by an original image with intact metadata (EXIF) info. Pictures entered in court also need to be proved that they are unretouched — because it will simply be so easy to do it.

What would not the Russian oligarchy of yesteryear have given for this feature!? Want to erase a comrade? да, готово! [At least that's what Google Translate says.]

Adobe Photoshop CS5 Puppet Warp

Mon April 5, 2010

First it was the amazing Content-Aware Fill feature, now Puppet Warp promises to be another must-have new Photoshop CS5 feature. Puppet Warp overlays a Mesh (you can specify the tightness or looseness) over your object, lets you set Control Points (“pins”), and rotate your object around those Control Points! The Mesh magically gives your object a rubber-like quality so they bend, twist and warp naturally. You can rotate sections of your object in front or behind one another.

Adobe Photoshop CS5 Is Content Aware

Sat March 27, 2010

Digital manipulation takes on a whole new meaning with Photoshop CS5′s Content-Aware Fill feature. And it’s so e-a-s-y that you will all be doing it and we won’t know what “digital manipulation” means anymore — especially if camera manufacturers eventually incorporate this feature in-camera.
