Sony DSC-P10 / P92 Cyber-shot

Sony DSC-P10 Cyber-shot

Category: Point-and-Shoot

The Sony P10 is one of the new digital cameras from Sony that accepts the new Memory Stick Pro. It has 5.0 megapixels resolution, a 3x optical zoom and a maximum aperture of F2.8. An Auto Focus Illuminator helps in low-light photography. For those who are interested in the movie capability of a digital camera, the P10 allows the capture pf MPEG VX movie at VGA (640x480) audio/video clips with length limited only by the capacity of the MemoryStick storage media you're using.

The Sony P10 is an entry-level digital camera that should appeal to point-and-shoot photographers looking for a high resolution sleek and compact digital camera.

The Sony DSC-P92 is similar to the P10, but about $50 cheaper.

For those of you who are wondering, there are a couple of subtle differences between the P10 and P92:

  • The P10 body is metal; the P92 body is plastic
  • The P10 has a couple more scene modes: Fireworks, Fast Shutter
  • The P10 has Auto Exposure Bracketing
  • The P10 adds Flash White Balance
  • The P10 has a live histogram display
  • The P10 can take 3fps Burst; the P92 takes 2fps Burst
  • The P10 uses rechargeable Li-Ion battery with an In-camera charger; the P92 uses 2 rechargeable NiMH batteries with an external charger
  • The P10 comes with 32MB MemoryStick; the P92 comes with 16MB MemoryStick
  • The P10 is slightly smaller and lighter
  • The P10 costs about $50 more than the P92
  • P10 or P92? The P10 seems to be much better value for money. However, if you prefer AA batteries, then the P92 is the route to go.
