Advanced Amateur - Prosumer
The Sony DSC-F828 Cyber-shot continues the lens-centric
tradition of its prosumer digital cameras. The
F828 is built around a Carl Zeiss T* 7x wide-angle
optical zoom (28-200 mm). At the front of the
lens is a ring that provides real mechanical manual
zoom/focus that should please many enthusiasts.
Answering to popular demand, Sony has equipped
the F828 with dual memory slots: it accepts MemoryStick
and MemoryStick PRO cards, plus CompactFlash
I and II, including MicroDrive.
The F828 has 8 megapixels resolution and retains
a 2/3 in. size image sensor, but the latter is
Sony's recently announced four-color filter CCD
technology. The body is magnesium alloy black,
and is slightly larger and heavier than the F717
it replaces.
It retains a maximum aperture of F2.0, macro
at 2 cm (0.8 in.), and Hologram AF Illuminator
(plus, NightShot and NightFraming). The lens still
swivels upward and downward to permit more convenient
shooting angles. Shutter speeds range from 30-1/3,200
sec.
With the introduction of the 28mm wide-angle,
7x long zoom, dedicated button for a Quick Review,
and the acceptance of CompactFlash cards, Sony
has effectively answered all of its fans' wishes.
The Sony F828 should appeal to advanced amateur
photographers and continue to lead at the top
of the Prosumer category.
