Category: Point-and-Shoot
The Sony Cyber-shot DSC-W7 is basically
a W1 with a few feature changes. It still retains
the high-end Carl Zeiss optics and a 1/1.8-in.
image sensor, but now with 7.2 effective megapixel
resolution.
Feature-wise, the Sony W7 is similar to the Sony
W1 with 3x optical zoom, an AF Illuminator
to help achieve focus in low-light situations,
up to 30 sec. shutter speed in manual mode for
capturing night shots, and 0.9fps burst mode (5
shots vs. 9 shots for the W1) to capture fast
moving subjects. The upper end of the shutter
speed is now faster at 1/2,000 sec. The LCD monitor
is still an extra large 2.5 in. but with less
resolution (115K vs. 123K for the W1). New also
is the 32MB internal flash memory, and so the
Sony W7 does not come standard with a memory card.
Macro is closer at about 6cm.
Just like the W1, the Sony W7 allows the addition
of optional wide-angle and telephoto lenses, and
filters (30mm); the VAD-WA adaptor is required.
The W7 is PictBridge compatible, allowing direct
printing from the camera to any PictBridge compatible
printer.
The Sony Cyber-shot DSC-W7 is available
in black or silver bodies and should appeal to
photographers looking for an ultra compact high
resolution take anywhere digital camera.
