Point-and-Shoot
The Sony Cyber-shot DSC-W5 is similar
to the W7 with a few feature changes. It still
retains the high-end Carl Zeiss optics and a 1/1.8-in.
image sensor, but with 5.1 effective megapixel
resolution.
Feature-wise, the Sony W5 is similar to the Sony
W7 with 3x optical zoom, an AF Illuminator
to help achieve focus in low-light situations,
and up to 30 sec. shutter speed in manual mode
for capturing night shots. The LCD monitor is
an extra large 2.5 in. (115K resolution). The
Sony W5 does not come standard with a memory card
since it has 32MB internal flash memory.
Differences from the Sony W7: Burst mode is at
1.6fps (9 shots max.), the upper end of the shutter
speed is at 1/1,000 sec, and Macro is at 10cm.
Just like the W7, the Sony W5 allows the addition
of optional wide-angle and telephoto lenses, and
filters (30mm); the VAD-WA adaptor is required.
The W5 is PictBridge compatible, allowing direct
printing from the camera to any PictBridge compatible
printer.
The Sony Cyber-shot DSC-W5 should appeal
to photographers looking for an ultra compact
high resolution take anywhere digital camera.
