The Sony Cyber-shot DSC-V3 returns to
its roots with a design evolving from the DSC-S85.
It is larger and heavier than the DSC-V1 that
it replaces, with a large handgrip, and now comes
in an all-black magnesium alloy/plastic body.
The Sony DSC-V3 has 7.2 megapixels resolution,
a Carl Zeiss Vario Sonnar 4x optical zoom, maximum
aperture of F2.8, shutter speed range from 1/8
- 1/2,000 sec. (30 - 1/1,000 sec. in Manual mode),
and 3.9 in. macro. Exposure control includes Shutter-Priority
and Aperture-Priority modes, plus 9 Scene Modes.
Besides the same lens, it also retains the Hologram
AF Illuminator for low-light shooting, program
shift, and adds support for the RAW file format,
and improved battery life.
Like the V1, the V3 has a hotshoe for using the
optional Sony HVL-F32X Auto-Programmable external
flash. The onboard flash has moved from the left
edge on the V1 where the left index finger always
seemed to get in the way to above the lens on
the V3. It is really a flip-on flash as opposed
to a pop-up. On the back, there is now an extra
large 2.5-in. LCD monitor.
The Sony Cyber-shot DSC-V3 will appeal
to serious amateur photographers desiring a high-quality
digital camera with all the flexible exposure
control they need.
