Sony DSC-H1 Cyber-shot

Mouseover image for back view

Category: Beginner to Serious Amateur

The Sony DSC-H1 Cyber-shot is Sony's first foray into the popular ultra zoom category. It features 12x optical zoom with Super SteadyShot® Optical Image Stabilization, 5.1 MP resolution, and exposure flexibility.

The Sony H1 has a Sony lens with a maximum aperture of F2.8, shutter speed range from 1/8 - 1/2,000 sec. (30 - 1/1,000 sec. in Manual mode), and 2cm (0.8 in.) macro. Exposure control includes Programmed AE, Shutter-Priority and Aperture-Priority modes, plus 7 Scene Modes. It has an AF Illuminator for low-light shooting, and provides a number of focus modes: 3 Area Multi-Point AF, Center AF, and a limited (5-Step only) Manual focus.

The Sony H1 will record 640x480 MPEG VX movies with sound at 30fps when using the Memory Stick PRO™ media or at 16fps with regular Memory Stick media. There is an extra large 2.5 in. LCD monitor (resolution 115K pixels).

The Sony H1 is targetted principally to beginner amateur photographers. More serious amateur photographers will find enough options to grow into, including the availability of optional 0.7x wide-angle and 1.7x telephoto conversion lenses (adaptor ring is required), though they may miss the availability of a hotshoe for external flash attachment and Manual WB.

The Sony DSC-H1 Cyber-shot will appeal to beginner (and serious) amateur photographers desiring a long zoom digital camera with image stabilization, a large hand grip, live histogram, and flexible exposure control.
