Sony α (alpha) DSLR-A100 digital SLR

Sony a (alpha) DSLR-A100

Category: Serious Amateur

Based on Konica Minolta's Alpha/Maxxum/Dynax digital SLR technology that Sony acquired from the former, the new Sony α (alpha) DSLR-A100 digital SLR inherits the legacy of the Konica Minolta A-mount system

The Sony α (alpha) DSLR-A100 features 10.2-megapixel resolution on an APS-sized CCD image sensor. Its main differentiator from its competitors is Konica Minolta's unique Anti-Shake system, now renamed the Super SteadyShot. Instead of shifting a lens (thus requiring you to purchase expensive Image Stabilized lenses), the Super SteadyShot technology shifts the CCD to compensate for camera movement, so all lenses benefit from anti-shake performance.

New to both Konica-Minolta and Sony is an Anti-Dust Technology. Changing lenses in a DSLR can allow dust to enter the camera -- so to keep the CCD imager clean for better pictures, the Sony α (alpha) DSLR-A100 camera utilizes both static-free anti-dust coating on the CCD filter and anti-dust vibration that automatically shakes the CCD to dislodge dust each time the camera is shut off.

The large 2.5-in. LCD monitor is high resolution at 230,000 pixels and the Clear Photo LCD Plus™ design makes it possible to view it comfortably even in bright sunlight. An Eye-Start® Autofocus System begins its precision autofocus adjustments the moment you bring your eye to the viewfinder.

The Sony α (alpha) DSLR-A100 kit comes with a 18-70mm lens, with a 35mm equivalent focal length of 27-105mm. There are over 16 million A-mount lenses sold worldwide that could be used with the Sony A100. The Sony name now graces many of the formerly Konica Minolta branded lenses, and some Carl Zeiss® T* coated lenses will also be compatible with the camera.

With the Sony α (alpha) DSLR-A100 digital SLR, beginner and serious amateur photographers now again have the choice of what was already one of the most innovative digital camera (Konica Minolta 5D) with additional features sure to please most photographers.
