The Samsung HT-C5500 Blu-ray home theater is an attractive 5.1 Channel system with some great features, including an iPod dock station. We had the opportunity to play with it here in-house the last few weeks. Just how good are the sound and images? Read our review.
Setting up the HT-C5500 Home Theater is easy and fast. Wires are color coded and it is therefore easy to connect the speakers to the right outputs on the home theater. For the purpose of our review, we connect the Samsung Home Theater to a 46″ Samsung LED TV. One great Blu-Ray movie (“I am legend”) and one that is not that great (“10,000 BC”) serve as our samples to test out the images and sound. They both feature beautiful images and lots of sound effects.
The Samsung HT-C5500 uses HDMI v.1.4 to ensure the highest resolution transmission.
and it shows in the quality of the pictures: they are great!
We have no issues when the Blu-Ray home theater is connected to the Samsung LED TV. But, strangely enough, the Blu-Ray player does not recognize the DVDs when it is connected to a LG TV. We are not sure why since it should have no bearing whatsoever at all which TV is connected. It’s something you might want to keep in mind if you’re thinking of getting this home theater but does not own a Samsung TV.

Hello Ladies. Look at your anemic speakers. Now back at the speakers above. Now back to your anemic speakers. Now back at the speakers above...
The Samsung HT-C5500 supports DTS-HD Master Audio and Dolby TrueHD formats as well as Dolby Digital Plus. To reduce sound distortion and noise, Samsung uses feedback circuitry in its Crystal Amplifier Pro filters. An Auto Sound Calibration optimizes the sound level of the speakers.
The sound from the 5 speakers and sub woofer is powerful and clear. Crank it all the way up and your neighbors will sure be complaining. We like the sound quality but would have preferred a stronger bass.
One of the great features of the Samsung HT-C5500 home theater is the AllShare feature which enables content to be streamed between DLNA devices. In plain language, this allows you to play files stored on your PC’s hard drive through your home theater using the remote control. Cool!
Another cool feature, which we were unfortunately unable to test out, is the ability to connect to the Internet through either the modem and router or through a Samsung wireless LAN adapter. You should then be able to access Facebook, YouTube, Twitter, Blockbuster and Flickr. Try as we may, we were however unable to make the connection and so were not able to test these features.
If you are energy conscious, you will welcome the Samsung’s Eco Power Management system which uses only about 2/3 energy of the previous models.
Conclusion
If you already own a Samsung TV and are itching to get a Blu-Ray player, why not move up to the Samsung HT-C5500 Blu-Ray Home Theater? A home theater makes your TV or movie watching that much more enjoyable.
