Samsung BD-C6900 3D-Bluray Player Review

by Michael

If you are getting one of the new 3D TV, do not forget that you cannot just plug in a regular Bluray player to be able to play 3D movies — you’d need a 3D Bluray player.

We review the Samsung BD-C6900 3D-Bluray player and find some pretty compelling features.

Appearance

The Samsung BD-C6900 design is sleek with a glossy black finish. Touch-sensitive buttons on the top give it a very elegant look and makes it very easy to use. The buttons respond well to a gentle touch. A remote control is standard.

It has the following connections: HDMI (1.4), component and composite videos, digital optical, 7.1 analog outputs, LAN and USB.

The USB connection is very useful as it allows you to view photos, DivX HD movies and listen to music from a USB drive.

The LAN connection allows you to connect to the Internet through a router or modem. But the BD-C6900 has an internal WiFi, which we shall talk about later.

Image Quality

How well does the Samsung 3D Bluray player reproduce the images? Were there any jaggies present?

The image quality of the Samsung BD-C6900 is excellent. We use the Samsung 3D TV – PN50C7000 to view the images.

We did not notice any jaggies, noise or ghosting. The images were sharp and rich in color.

It up-converts regular DVD and 2D Bluray very well. Note that there are currently few 3D Bluray discs on the market so it’s hard to make a proper judgment based on one or two samples.

Features

What is great with Samsung products is that they are features rich which is not the case in other brands.

What impresses us most is the internal WiFi. With previous Samsung models, we need to use a USB dongle or an ethernet cable to connect to the Internet. The C6900 detects any available WiFi and can connect to any of them (you’ll of course need the password to access it, unless it is unencrypted).

Connection to Internet@TV is fast and easy and you can browse applications and watch YouTube. Unfortunately, it’s all accomplished through apps and there are only a limited amount of them. There is no browser app to surf the Internet; this would have been a major plus.

The AllShare feature allows you to stream your PC audio and video files to your HDTV using your remote control.

Conclusion

If you are purchasing a new Bluray player and you have or are planning to get a 3D TV, we’d recommend you take a look at the Samsung BD-C6900 player. It has very good image quality and great features (internal WiFi, Allshare, BD-Live). Being able to connect to the Internet wirelessly is a major PLUS though a browser app is sorely missing.
