This Samsung EX2F Review is based on a production model. All sample images are unretouched, except where specified.
The Samsung EX2F is a delightful compact system camera. It is built well, has very good handling, and looks professional in its black body. It has excellent image quality at ISO 80 and very good image quality up to ISO 400, and even ISO 800 (especially if you shoot in RAW).
The EX2F has lots of dials and control buttons to make its operation intuitive. It’s one of those rare cameras that feels right as soon as you pick it up.
The screen display is a beautiful 3.0-in. AMOLED that swivels. If you frequently find yourself shooting from all kinds of awkward angles, you’ll love the freedom of the swivelling screen.
Wi-Fi is another liberating feature, allowing one of the easiest to use wireless transfer of images from camera to your PC. You can even use your smartphone to remotely view and take pictures from the EX2F.
Its F1.4 lens is one of the brightest around, which is a boost in low light situations. All the manual and semi-auto shooting modes are available, though, curiously, Program Shift is not.
Movie recording is now Full HD with stereo sound and you can zoom during recording. Turn the Sound Alive function ON and you will barely hear a whisper when you zoom during video recording.
The 3.3x optical zoom starts at a very useful and desirable ultra wide-angle 24mm equivalent. The 80mm tele is not much but is helpful as a macro tele or portrait lens. The 1cm macro mode delivers sharp and detailed images.
The Samsung EX2F acquires focus fast and there is no shutter lag. The super bright F1.4 lens, Wi-Fi capability, internal ND Filter and full manual shooting modes should appeal to enthusiast photographers. The Samsung EX2F is highly recommended if you are looking for a compact, intuitive and fast camera that delivers low noise images up to ISO 400. It’s ideal for unobstrusive street photography.
