Nikon Introduces COOLPIX S6500 with Built-in Wi-Fi Capability and High-power Zoom, and S2700 with Wide-angle Zoom and Advanced Performance
Las Vegas, CES Booth #8643, January 7, 2013 – Today, Nikon Canada announced two stylish COOLPIX S-series models that feature advanced functions to inspire creativity while capturing all of life’s important moments.
The COOLPIX S6500 is a wide-angle, high-power zoom model equipped with a 16.1-megapixel backside illumination CMOS image sensor, a 12x optical zoom-NIKKOR lens that covers a broad range of view from wide-angle 25mm to 300mm (equivalent in 35-mm [135] format), all in a slim and stylish body. With built-in Wi-Fi® capability, users can transfer high-quality photos and movies from the camera to a smart device for direct upload to social networking sites. The S6500 provides an extensive feature set that lets users get creative with their photos after they have been taken. It also features five new Glamour Retouch effects, including Brighten Faces, which enhances skin tones, and Whiten Teeth, which brightens every smile.
The slim COOLPIX S2700 features a 6x optical zoom-NIKKOR lens with wide-angle and zoom capabilities that allow it to cover a wide range of scenes. It offers an extensive selection of automatic shooting functions including Scene Auto Selector, which analyzes a scene and automatically selects from one of six scene modes. The camera is also equipped with a variety of image-editing functions such as Special Effects and Filter Effects, as well as advanced basic functions such as Motion Detection and Subject Tracking. The S2700 enables even first-time digital-camera users to enjoy shooting and editing their photos through simple-to-use actions.

COOLPIX S6500 Primary Features
A 12x optical zoom-NIKKOR lens covering a broad range of angles of view from wide-angle 25mm to 300mm (equivalent in 35-mm [135] format) The COOLPIX S6500 is equipped with a backside illumination CMOS image sensor with an effective pixel count of 16.1-million and a high-powered zoom-NIKKOR lens with lens-shift Vibration Reduction (VR) technology, all in a stylish and slim body. With the S6500’s high level of portability, users will enjoy capturing a great variety of scenes, from wide-angle landscape shots to close-ups of people’s expressions using the zoom or macro close-up shooting (up to about 8 cm from the front of the lens).
Wi-Fi® compatibility expands the enjoyment of connecting through easy communications with smart devices With built-in Wi-Fi®, users can easily transfer photos and movies to smart devices such as smartphones and tablets1 and from there, they can share high-quality images and videos by uploading directly to social networking sites. Users can also use smart devices to remotely shoot pictures, convenient for group photos.
Eight Glamour Retouch effects, including five new effects Five new Glamour Retouch effects are available on the COOLPIX S6500, including Brighten Faces to enhance skin tones, Hide Eye Bags to reduce the effects of bags and darkening under the eyes, Whiten Eyes to make the whites of eyes appear whiter, Whiten Teeth to brighten smiles, and Redden Cheeks to apply a blush effect to the cheeks for a lively look (orange, red, blue-pink and yellow-pink colours can be selected).
Previously released Glamour effects are also included (Skin Softening, Small Face and Big Eyes). With eight effects, users can adjust photos to create memorable portraits that really bring out the beauty and expressions of their subjects.
A wide variety of shooting functions for capturing decisive moments The COOLPIX S6500 features Smile Timer Continuous, with which the camera captures up to five images continuously and saves all, and Best Shot Selector (BSS), which captures up to five images continuously and saves the one that best captured the smile. The camera also comes equipped with advanced basic performance including Target Finding AF, which instructs the camera to automatically focus on the most suitable subject just by pointing the camera at it, Scene Auto Selector, which automatically sets the optimal scene mode, and Face Priority AF, which automatically detects and focuses on human faces. The COOLPIX S6500 features an extensive array of functions to ensure that users will be able to capture their special moments.
High-quality Full-HD (1080p) movies with stereo sound at the press of a button Full-HD 1920 x 1080/30 fps movies with stereo sound and superior picture quality can be recorded with a simple press of a button on the back of the camera. The COOLPIX S6500 also features a function that allows for pausing movie recording. By saving multiple scenes recorded intermittently to eliminate unwanted portions as a single file, users can enjoy playing back one continuous movie. Users can also edit movies to trim selected scenes from the footage.

Equipped with a 6x optical NIKKOR lens for wide-angle to zoom shooting with a single lens, in a slim body The COOLPIX S2700 features a 6x optical zoom-NIKKOR lens for coverage of a broad range of view from wide-angle 26mm to 156mm (equivalent in 35-mm [135] format) in a stylish and slim body. This allows for shooting a variety of everyday scenes with simple operation, and even close-ups of people up to about 5 cm from the front of the lens.
Extensive automatic shooting functions let first-time users enjoy advanced simple shooting The S2700 features Scene Auto Selector mode which instructs the camera to automatically select the optimal scene mode for the subject or scene.
By simply pointing the camera at the desired object, the camera will determine the optimal scene mode out of the six that are available (Portrait, Night Portrait, Landscape, Night Landscape, Backlight and Close-up). This allows users to capture beautiful images of a wide variety of subjects without the need to change settings.
Image-editing functions before or after photos are captured With the S2700’s Special Effects menu, users can pre-select a desired colour and tone effect prior to shooting. After a photo has been taken, users can apply in-camera Filter Effects for simple image adjustments and enhancements without the need for a computer.
Advanced basic performance
With features such as Motion Detection, which automatically increases shutter speeds by detecting camera shake along with the movement and speed of the subject, the COOLPIX S2700 lets users capture sharper pictures with less blur. Subject Tracking AF locks focus on a moving subject, particularly useful when capturing children or pets at play, and ensures sharp focus and quick response.

The Nikon COOLPIX S6500 is scheduled to be available at Authorized Nikon Canada Dealers in February 2013 at a Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) of $229.95. Available in red and black.
