Reaching out to a whole market segment that uses photography not necessarily for art purposes, but rather for scientific and event documentation and research, Fujifilm has introduced an infrared version of its flagship mirrorless interchangeable lens camera, the X-T1 IR (infrared).

The FUJIFILM X-T1 IR adds advanced infrared technology to see light from the ultraviolet (UV), visible and infrared (IR) portions of the light spectrum (approximately 380nm – 1,000nm).

As a weather-proof and rugged camera that can be used almost anywhere–and with a growing number of high-quality weather-proof lenses–the X-T1 IR should prove attractive to experts in crime scene investigation, healthcare diagnostics and observation, and other scientific and technical applications. Infrared imaging is critically important in these fields because it allows users to see information that is not visible to the human eye.

Of course, infrared photography as art is also very popular and photographers now don’t have to muck with their cameras by trying to remove the IR filter inside by themselves.

The FUJIFILM X-T1 IR (Infrared) will be available in October 2015 for CAD $2,099.99 (USD $1,699.95).

Images of the new camera are still pending, but should outwardly look similar to the X-T1 (pictured above).
