iF DESIGN AWARD 2016 – the results are in

5,300 entries by 2,450 participants from 53 countries: a 60 member-strong jury comprised of international experts convened at Schuppen 52 located in the port of Hamburg from 19 to 21 January 2016 to determine the winners of the iF DESIGN AWARD 2016.

The jury’s decision is now in: 1,821 entries in the disciplines of product design, communication design, packaging design, service design, professional concept and architecture and interior architecture have been recognized with the iF label and 75 entries were honored with the coveted iF gold award. The iF design award night, where the winners will be duly celebrated, will take place on 26 February at BMW Welt in Munich.

Five Fujifilm products, including the premium mirrorless digital camera FUJIFILM X-Pro2 and broadcast zoom lens FUJINON UA80x9, win the internationally prestigious “iF Design Award” in recognition of their product design and performance in diverse fields

FUJIFILM Corporation (President: Shigehiro Nakajima) has been awarded the distinguished “iF Design Award 2016”, for five of its products, including the premium mirrorless digital camera “FUJIFILM X-Pro2” and the broadcast zoom lens “FUJINON UA80x9,” which boasts optical performance compatible with 4K cameras.

The iF Design Award is an international design award launched in 1953 by the iF International Forum Design in Hanover, Germany. It is one of the world’s three most prestigious design awards, alongside Germany’s “Red Dot Design Award” and the United States’ “IDEA.” The five products were awarded in recognition of not only exterior design, but also their advanced product performance and ease of use.

Fujifilm is proud to have five of its products chosen for the iF Design Award out of a large number of entries submitted from across the world, and will continue to achieve excellence in product development.

■ Premium mirrorless digital camera “FUJIFILM X-Pro2” (to be released on March 3, 2016)
X-Pro2 is a premium mirrorless camera with classic design that has evolved from its predecessor’s full magnesium alloy chassis and milled aluminum dials, combined with additional features for enhanced ease of use. The use of the newly developed APS-C sensor “X-TransTM CMOS III”* (24.3MP, with no optical low pass filter) and ultra-fast “X-Processor Pro” image processing engine delivers the highest image quality and mobility in the history of the X series. The world’s first Advanced Hybrid Multi Viewfinder allows users to switch between the optical and electronic viewfinders to suit shooting conditions. The chassis design is perfected with operability in mind, placing the shutter speed dial featuring the integrated ISO selector on the top plate, and positioning the Focus Lever for directly adjusting the focus point on the back panel.

■ Premium compact digital camera “FUJIFILM X70”
X70 is a premium compact camera featuring the APS-C sensor “X-TransTM CMOS II” and the newly-developed ultra-thin 18.5mm** wide-angle FUJINON lens on a compact metal chassis body weighing just 340g***. Despite its pocket-sized compact body, it delivers the image quality Fujifilm has become known for. The lens barrel features milled metal aperture ring and control ring to enable full-fledged manual shooting. Other features include the 180-degree tilting touchscreen LDC monitor and operation dials. The camera is capable of high-speed AF of up to 0.1 second*4. A wide range of dedicated optional accessories is also available.

■ Mirrorless digital camera “FUJIFILM X-T10”
X-T10 is a compact and lightweight mirrorless digital camera featuring the AF system that excels in tracking a moving subject, the world’s shortest display time lag of just 0.005 sec*5, the large electronic viewfinder with the magnification ratio of 0.62x*6 and a built-in flash. It brings back the joy of “shooting through the viewfinder” in a variety of scenes both indoors and outdoors. The use of the shutter speed dial, exposure compensation dial and aperture ring on the lens barrel enables intuitive operations in the Manual mode, synonymous to the X Series. The addition of the Auto Mode Switch lever, which switches the camera into the Auto Mode with a quick lever operation, makes this model a “compact yet fully-featured” camera that caters to the needs of a wide range of users from beginners to professional photographers.

XQ2 packs features such as the X-TransTM CMOS II 2/3-inch sensor, fast f1.8 lens and optical 4x zoom starting from 25mm on the wide-angle side, into a lightweight, stylish and compact body weighing just 206g*7. The minimalistic and refined design provides users with photographic pleasure, ease of operation and a sense of satisfaction about owning this premium compact camera. It inherits the luxurious design of its predecessor “XQ1,” available in the popular, elegant Black, as well as the new “Silver x Black” in response to market request and the sophisticated “Silver x White.” This model has enhanced shooting functions including improved AF performance.

■ Broadcast zoom lens “UA80x9” compatible with 4K cameras
UA80x9 is the first broadcast zoom lens compatible with 4K cameras launched in the world.*8 Using the cutting-edge optical simulation technology, the FUJINON lens delivers a high magnification zoom of up to 80x while offering advanced optical performance at the same time such as high image resolution and contrast for superior color reproduction. It covers the focal lengths from 9mm on the wide angle side to 720mm on the telephoto end. A unique “optical stabilization mechanism” corrects image shakes caused by vibrations, realizing stable footage in coverage of live sporting events and concerts. The lens enables 4K video production with a high realistic sensation and premium image quality.
