Epson launches one of the fastest document ink jet printers

Epson Stylus® C120 compelling alternative to laser printer for Executives, SOHOs and families who must quickly produce high-quality, durable documents

TORONTO, Ontario – Epson Canada Ltd., a leader in advanced imaging technologies, today announced availability of the Epson Stylus® C120 printer – one of the world’s fastest laser-quality document ink jet printers.

Epson Stylus C120

Manufactured for busy Executives, small office/home office (SOHOs) and families who need high-quality, durable documents, the Epson Stylus C120 printer is designed for customers who want to make the best impression when printing mainly on plain paper but don’t want the expense of a colour laser printer or the limitations of a monochrome laser printer.

This high-performing yet affordable printer is also the right choice for those who place a priority on productivity. Blazing through documents at an industry-leading speed for laser-quality black text printing, this printer is up to twice as fast as some competitive models. Based on independent testing, the Epson C120 offers the fastest black text printing compared to ink jet printers under CAD $160 -- as of April 2007 -- and is up to two times faster compared to ink jet printers under CAD $100(*1). The printer also delivers impressive speeds for laser-quality colour text printing. When even faster printing is needed, the Epson C120 can print at speeds up to 37 pages per minute (ppm) for black and 20 ppm for colour in draft mode(*2).

“People who are thinking about buying an entry-level laser printer will love the Epson C120 ink jet printer,” said Tamara Walsh, Marketing Manager, Epson Canada Ltd. “This printer has not only the black text speed of a laser but also colour printing and photo capabilities at a very affordable price. Whether customers want to print presentations or brochures to market their business or simply need to print everyday documents like school reports or driving directions, the Epson C120 has what they need.”

Ink and Print Head Technology
The DURABrite® Ultra inks in the Epson C120 produce smudge and water resistant laser-quality text and brilliant colour images on both plain and photo paper. The output is even highlighter resistant on plain paper. Additionally, the fade resistance on plain paper is rated up to six times longer than leading competitive prints(*3), which is important for documents that need to be saved, such as wills or tax paperwork. These all-pigment inks dry instantly so customers can share documents and prints immediately.

The Epson C120 features individual ink cartridges, so that consumers only have to replace the colour needed, and the printer’s dual black cartridges allow about twice as much printing at about twice the speed for even faster productivity and enhanced convenience(*4). Additionally, with one standard ink set for both documents and photos, there is no need to swap cartridges based on what is being printed.

Epson’s Advanced DX3™ MicroPiezo® print head technology features smart nozzles that can each produce and precisely place three sizes of ink droplets. These innovative nozzles are more efficient than those that can only produce one droplet size. As a result, fewer nozzles are needed to create exceptional photos and documents with remarkable colour and detail at fast speeds.

Photo Features
While optimized to be a workhorse for everyday printing, the Epson C120 also features important photo capabilities.

Epson’s Auto Photo Correction(*5) is like having a photo lab technician built into the printer to correct the lighting in poorly exposed images to produce perfect prints. It also includes advanced face detection, which automatically distinguishes people from scenery, correcting the colour accordingly to ensure beautiful, natural skin tones.

The Epson C120 also supports BorderFree® photo printing in 3.5 x 5-inch, 4 x 6-inch, 5 x 7-inch, 8 x 10-inch and letter sizes with no perforations or edges to trim. The printer can support paper up to 8.5 x 44-inch.

Connectivity and Operating Systems
The Epson C120 supports Hi-Speed USB 2.0 and is compatible with Windows Vista™, XP Professional x64, XP, and 2000, as well as Macintosh OS® X 10.2.8, 10.3.9, 10.4.x or later.

Availability and Support
The Epson C120 is now available at a manufacturer’s suggested retail price (MSRP) of CAD $69.99 at London Drugs, Staples and fine independent retailers across Canada.
