TORONTO, ON (August 29, 2006)
Epson Canada Limited today announced its
newest consumer scanners the Epson
Perfection V350 Photo and Epson Perfection
V100 Photo, targeting Chief Memory Officers
, photo enthusiasts and advanced amateur
photographers who want to easily restore
and archive their cherished photos, negatives
and slides, as well as scan items for creative
projects with ease.
The Epson Perfection V350 Photo and Epson
Perfection V100 Photo scanners, with estimated
street prices of $179 CDN and $129 CDN respectively,
both feature a newly designed slim case
suited for either portrait or landscape
orientation with a high-rise lid and hinge
that can be opened up to 180 degrees. This
lid allows for greater flexibility in scanning
three-dimensional objects up to 25mm thick,
as well as oversized objects, photos and
documents. In addition, the scanners offer
premium value with a maximum hardware resolution
up to 4800 x 9600 dpi on the Perfection
V350 Photo and up to 3200 x 9600 dpi on
the Perfection V100 Photo. Both models offer
48-bit colour scanning and 3.2 dynamic range
for high quality scans, as well as Epson
Easy Photo Fix® for automatic colour
restoration of faded photos.The scanners
also feature Epsons new Digital Dust
Correction technology, a more intelligent
tool that automatically detects and removes
unwanted dust particles from scans while
maintaining the integrity of the original
image. Some dust removal technologies apply
detection to the whole image, which can
mistakenly remove important details that
resemble dust or debris. Epsons solution
separates an image into different areas
those with many image elements and
those with few image elements and
works to remove defects only in the clearer
areas. In this manner, dust is removed from
only those areas where it would be most
visible, minimizing the risk that real image
content would erroneously be deleted. This
patent-pending technology is only available
for Epson scanners.
Another key advancement for the Perfection
V350 Photo and Perfection V100 Photo is
Epsons improved Back Light Correction
technology. This feature corrects poorly
exposed photos that result when the subject
is in front of a bright background. In addition
to automatically adjusting the underexposed
foreground subject, this feature takes the
process one step further by colour balancing
the overall image. This results in a more
natural-looking image with corrected exposure
and better colour reproduction.
Epson Perfection scanners strive
to deliver the best quality and overall
value for preserving treasured photos at
these price points, said Philip Amato,
Product Manager, Scanners, Epson. With
so many digital imaging enhancement tools
housed within a sleek, innovative design,
these consumer-level scanners continue to
be a smart choice for anyone who wants outstanding
imaging technologies without breaking the
bank.
These scanners also have four convenient
front panel buttons that allow customers
to automatically scan for copies and e-mail
attachments, as well as generate Adobe®
PDF files. Both feature Hi-speed USB 2.0
ports for fast data transfer.
The Epson Perfection V350 Photo
For advanced amateur photographers, the
Epson Perfection V350 Photo boasts an impressive
4800 x 9600 dpi maximum hardware resolution
for reproducing and enlarging images with
incredible detail and accuracy. This resolution
matches that used by many professionals
when scanning film and allows for large
prints to be made without the loss of image
quality.
In addition, the Perfection V350 Photo features
a unique Automatic Film Loader (AFL) built
into the top of the scanner lid for effortless
film scanning of 35mm film strips, up to
six frames at a time. Customers who have
shoeboxes full of negatives will find the
AFL an invaluable tool for scanning large
quantities of negative strips. Users can
also scan film with a traditional film holder
and the built-in transparency adapter.
The Epson Perfection V350 Photo is available
now for a suggested street price
of $179 CDN
and can be purchased through Epson authorized
dealers, consumer electronic stores, mail
order or through the Epson website (www.epson.ca).
The Epson Perfection V100 Photo
Ideal for Chief Memory Officers and photo
enthusiasts, the Epson Perfection V100 Photo
delivers amazing output quality and colour
restoration capabilities at a very affordable
price. This model offers the same Epson
Easy Photo Fix, Digital Dust Correction
and Back Light Correction technologies available
with the Perfection V350 Photo, but without
the AFL. The scanner includes a built-in
transparency adapter that can scan 35mm
film strips (up to six frames per strip)
or four 35mm mounted slides for added versatility.
This film holder, which has a higher capacity
than the predecessor model, allows for a
greater number of images to be batch-scanned
for increased productivity and ease of use.
The Epson Perfection V100 Photo is available
now for a suggested street price
of $129 CDN
and can be purchased through Epson authorized
dealers, consumer electronic stores, mail
order and through the Epson website (www.epson.ca).
Epson Easy Photo Fix Technology and Other
Powerful Software
Faded colour photos can be easily and affordably
restored with the Epson Easy Photo Fix software
included with the new scanners. Customers
simply scan an image and click on a check
box for instant colour restoration or dust
removal. The Epson Scan driver has three
different modes designed for a wide range
of users and experience: Full Auto mode,
which automatically scans at pre-determined
settings for entry-level users; Home mode,
which offers some pre-set recommended settings
for the advanced amateur; and Professional
mode, which allows access to all scan settings,
giving the advanced user maximum control.
Both scanners also include a selection
of other software for photo editing and
document scanning, including ArcSoft®
PhotoImpression 5, ABBYY® Fine
Reader® Sprint OCR and the Epson Creativity
Suite.
