MISSISSAUGA, ON, January 15, 2009 - Canon Canada Inc., the leading provider of digital imaging solutions, today announced the newest member of the popular A-series PowerShot digital camera line, the 10.0 megapixel PowerShot A480. The new digital camera features a 3.3x optical zoom lens (37 mm - 122 mm), Canon’s DIGIC III image processor and a large 6.35-centimetre LCD display. In addition to the 10.0 megapixels and optical zoom lens, the Canon PowerShot A480 digital camera is loaded with a full range of the high performance features, including Genuine Canon Face Detection Technology, Red Eye Correction, and VGA Movie Mode for capturing high-resolution still images while shooting video. The PowerShot A480 also incorporates the Super Macro Mode that takes you in even closer to your subject, allowing the user to aim from as little as one centimetre from the tip of the lens and capture a full 10.0 megapixels of detail.

“The PowerShot A480 digital camera has all the features that one could ask for at a competitive price point,” said Ian Macfarlane, Vice President and General Manager of the Consumer Imaging Group at Canon Canada Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Canon U.S.A., Inc. “With 15 separate shooting modes, this camera can be used in almost every condition, and always gets the perfect shot.”

Powered by two AA batteries, the PowerShot A480 digital camera is ideal for Canadians looking to take snapshots while on the road. A quick change of batteries ensures that there is no missing out on those special memories, and no need to worry about the time it takes to recharge the battery. The camera also boasts Canon’s innovative Motion Detection Technology that can detect and assess subject movement between each frame, making it quicker and easier to capture a series of images.

“Canon continues to up the ante with its A-series cameras,” said Macfarlane. “The new PowerShot A480 will provide photo enthusiasts with a quality camera to capture memories like the kids playing pick-up hockey on the backyard rink, or the first flowers blooming after the spring thaw.”

Scheduled to be available in February, the PowerShot A480 digital camera will have an estimated selling price of CAD $149.99.
