The Pentax K200D digital SLR has 10.2MP
resolution on an APS-sized (23.5mm x 15.7mm) CCD
image sensor with Sensor Shift Shake Reduction and Dust Reduction.
Because image stabilization is sensor-based, it is compatible with any PENTAX lens ever produced, including new SDM lenses. The Shake Reduction
system offers a 2.5 to 4 stop advantage.
The K200D targets the Family dSLR category:
those who want to move up from a point-and-shoot
digital camera and take advantage of a dSLR's
excellent image quality -- but do not want the
hassle of learning all the intricacies of using
a digital SLR. Auto Picture and Scene modes offer shooting ease, while advanced modes, such as the Sv mode, allow photographers to grow with the camera.
The K200D ships with a new SMC 18-55mm 3x optical
zoom lens. [A focal length multiplier of 1.5 gives
a 35mm equivalent of 54-165mm.]
The Pentax K200D has an extra large 2.7-in. LCD
monitor with enlarged menu lettering. There is no Live View so the LCD is not used for image composition viewing but image review only. A
high 230,000 pixels resolution and a 160° horizontal/vertical wide angle viewing provide easy viewing from any angle.
Pentax claims its Enhanced Dynamic Range mode gives 200% more dynamic range.
To prevent dust from
collecting on the image sensor, an improved Dust Reduction
system features prevention, removal and alerting devices. For those times when manual sensor cleaning is required, the dust alert system displays on the LCD the location of dust on the sensor to allow precise removal.
Having a hard time deciding on the Pentax K200D versus its other similarly-featured competitors? Consider that the K200D is the only one in its class with a weather and dust resistant body with special seals applied to different areas of
the camera body to allow shooting in harsh conditions. It also conveniently uses 4 AA batteries.
The Pentax K200D has enough features to
satisfy the advanced amateur photographer -- and
enough automation to be easily used by those moving
up from a point-and-shoot model.
