The Pentax K110D digital SLR has 6.1MP
resolution on an APS-sized (23.5mm x 15.7mm) CCD
image sensor and targets the Family dSLR category:
those who want to move up from a point-and-shoot
digital camera and take advantage of a dSLR's
excellent image quality -- but do not want the
hassle of learning all the intricacies of using
a digital SLR.
The "K" in the K100D name plays to
the fact that the camera is reversely compatible
with many of the legacy (and famous) Pentax K-mount
lenses. It ships with a SMC 18-55mm 3x optical
zoom lens. [A focal length multiplier of 1.5 gives
a 35mm equivalent of 54-165mm.]
The Pentax K100D has an extra large 2.5-in. LCD
monitor to facilitate image playback viewing and
menu setting. [Remember the LCD on most dSLRs
is not used for image composition viewing.] A
high 210,000 pixels resolution and a wide-viewing
angle of 140 degrees vertically and horizontally
provides easy viewing even from an angle.
Other features include 2.8 images per second
continuous shooting, top shutter speed of 1/4,000
sec. for sports and action photography, Bulb (B)
setting for night photography, a high ISO 3200
sensitivity for indoors shots without using the
flash, and a compact and lightweight fiber-reinforced
engineering plastic housing built on a stainless-steel
chassis.
The Pentax K110D has enough features to
satisfy the advanced amateur photographer -- and
enough automation to be easily used by those moving
up from a point-and-shoot model.
