The Pentax K10D DSLR has 10.1MP resolution
on an APS-sized (23.5mm x 15.7mm) CCD image sensor
with CCD Image Sensor Shift.
A new high-precision 11-point auto focus system
allows for fast single and continuous AF.
ISO goes from 100 to 3200, and a new and exclusive-to-K10D
TAv-Priority mode allows you to select both shutter
speed and aperture and leave it to the camera
to select the appropriate ISO for correct exposure.
New also is a practical Hyper Program mode that
allows you to quickly and intuitively switch from
P to either Shutter-Priority or APerture-Priority
mode, and back to P.
The Pentax K10D has a new extra large 2.5-in.
LCD monitor to facilitate image playback viewing
and menu setting. [Remember the LCD on most dSLRs
is not used for image composition viewing.] A
high 210,000 pixels resolution and a wide-viewing
angle of 140 degrees vertically and horizontally
provides easy viewing even from an angle. It also
features a glass pentaprism viewfinder that offers
a 96 percent field of view and a 95X magnification
-- with a large, bright and clear view.
A Shake Reduction (SR) system that is designed
to minimize camera shake by oscillating the CCD
image sensor vertically and horizontally at high
speed using magnetic force, while adjusting the
speed of oscillation in proportion to the amount
of camera shake detected by a built-in sensor.
This system does not require special anti-shake
lenses and may be used with almost all existing
PENTAX interchangeable lenses. The Shake Reduction
system offers a 2.5 to 4 stop advantage.
The PENTAX K10D weather-resistant body features
special seals applied to 72 different areas of
the camera body including the shutter release
button. These weather-resistant seals allow the
PENTAX K10D to operate even in light rain, fog,
snow and dusty conditions. To prevent dust from
collecting on the image sensor, a Dust Reduction
system vibrates the low-pass filter in front of
the image sensor automatically at startup to loosen
any dust on the CCD.
Other features include 3 images per second continuous
shooting, top shutter speed of 1/4,000 sec. for
sports and action photography, Bulb (B) setting
for night photography, a high ISO 3200 sensitivity
for indoors shots without using the flash, and
a real pentaprism for a large, clear and bright
viewfinder.
The Pentax K10D has a great feature set
and has raised the bar for other digital SLR manufacturer
to follow.
