The Pentax K-x features 12.4MP resolution (on a 23.6 x 15.8mm CMOS image sensor), Shake Reduction sensor-shift Image Stabilization, Dust Reduction technology, and a 2.7-in. LCD (230K dots). It is built solid, yet is compact and light thanks to the lightweight fiber-reinforced plastic polymer body wrapped over a stainless steel chassis.
The Pentax K-x is a user-friendly entry-level digital SLR camera that is packed with advanced functions. Auto Picture mode and Scene modes make it easy for the point-and-shoot photographer to upgrade to this digital SLR camera. PASM modes allow the advanced photographer to take full control of the camera.
Live View offers 3 focusing modes: Contrast-Detect AF, Face detection of up to 16 faces, and and Phase Difference AF.
Movie recording is 1280 x 720 pixels at 24fps in 16:9 HDTV format. There is no direct HD video connector on the camera so movies need to be downloaded first to a computer and then viewed on a HDTV.
Continuous shooting is an impressive 4.7fps (17 JPEG or 5 RAW DNG).
The KAF2 bayonet stainless steel mount allows access to a large number of available Pentax lenses. Since it is sensor-based, image stabilization is compatible with any PENTAX lens ever produced, including new SDM lenses.
Other features include:
HDR (high dynamic range) function to create one composite image with an extra-wide dynamic range from three images with different exposures.
Automatic compensation of distortion and lateral chromatic aberration (available only with DA and D FA series lenses).
Custom Image function to create unique finishing touches.
Uses 4 AA batteries.
The Pentax K-x is an affordable digital SLR camera that targets the beginner amateur photographers who want a DSLR that allows them to learn and grow in digital photography. Available in Black, White and special editions Red or Navy Blue. In Japan, it is available in different body and grip color combinations.
