of the FZ20

The Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ20
is targeted to serious amateur photographers with
5 megapixels resolution, 12x optical zoom that
is image stabilized, a Leica lens with a maximum
aperture of F2.8 throughout the zoom range (quite
a feat!), and macro as close as 5 cm (2 in.).
It has full flexible exposure control,
scene modes, shutter speed range from 8 sec to
1/2,000 sec., Program Shift, a large 2 in. LCD
monitor, and an AF Assist Lamp to aid focusing
in low-light situations. You can shoot consecutive
shots until the memory card is full. You can also
display grid lines on the screen (EVF and LCD)
to aid in composition.
The Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ20
comes in two flavours: all black body, or a mixture
of silver and black. The image stabilized ultra
zoom with large maximum aperture is a combination
not seen in any other digital camera so far, and
sets the FZ20 apart from its competitors. Though
the image sensor is quite small, take a look at
the image samples from Panasonic to see if the
image quality is what you're after.
The Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ15
is similar to the FZ20 but sports 4 megapixels
resolution, lacks a hot shoe for attaching an
external flash, lacks audio dubbing and still
image audio recording, and records movies without
sound. Both are PictBridge-compatible.
