Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ10

Category: Beginner to Serious Amateur

When the Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ1 came out, it was an instant success, though some bemoaned the fact it had only 2 megapixels resolution and no flexible exposure control. The Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ10 rectifies both complaints with 4 megapixels resolution, flexible exposure control and everything else basically the same: a 12x optical zoom with image stabilization, and a maximum F2.8 maximum aperture usable throughout the entire zoom range!

[Editor's note: In most cameras, the aperture gets smaller at telephoto settings thus limiting the amount of light available for proper exposure. With the Panasonic FZ10, you are able to use the F2.8 aperture at the maximum 12x zoom setting. Quite a feat for the Leica lens!]

To accomodate the extra resolution, Panasonic equipped the FZ10 with a larger image sensor (1/2.5 in.). The LCD is also larger at 2 in. and 130,000 pixels.

There is also an optional wide-angle lens attachment for an equivalent of 28mm, and one for a telephoto equivalent of 630mm.

The Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ10, with its stunning feature set, qualifies for our OriGenial™ Seal of Approval. It should be a fun camera and should appeal to beginner to serious amateur photographers desiring a long zoom lens and who will mainly be taking bright outdoors pictures.
