Panasonic now offers an ultra compact
model in either black or all silver body: the
Panasonic Lumix DMC-FX7 has 5-megapixel
resolution, 3x optical zoom with image stabilization,
and macro focus at 5 cm (2 in.).
The FX7 is a very cool looking
digital camera with lots of features underneath:
8-1/2,000 sec. shutter speed range, real-time
histogram, grid lines to aid in keeping the horizontal
level, scene modes to automate exposure setting
in various situations, a large 2.5 in. LCD monitor
(no viewfinder, though), an AF Assist Lamp for
low-light focusing, and of course the image stabilized
Leica lens all the Panasonic digital cameras are
quickly becoming famous for. Plus, the FX7 is
also Pictbridge-compatible, allowing images to
be sent directly to a Pictbridge-compatible printer
from the camera without going through a computer.
Though other ultra compacts may
have a similar feature set, none yet has the image
stabilization to negate camera shake at slow shutter
speeds.
The Panasonic Lumix DMC-FX7
is JeansPocket
Certified and should appeal to those desiring
a take anywhere ultra compact with image stabilization.
The Panasonic Lumix DMC-FX2
is similar to the FX7 but sports 4-megapixel resolution,
and lacks still image audio recording, audio dubbing,
and has a 2 in. LCD monitor.
